Good for beginners
After 3 weeks in, I must say that this kit is pretty good for beginners like me.First of all, I don’t agree with reviews saying that it’s a fraud and you only get a box with straw - YES, you do get a box with straw, BUT you also get a voucher to redeem your fresh mycelium completely for FREE from the kit maker’s website. This comes with no shipping fee whatsoever, just input the voucher code or scan the QR and you’re good to go.Back to the mushrooms. Yesterday there was nothing showing on the box, today I woke up to this sight.I definitely don’t have perfect conditions, after the first steps and holding them under my bed in the darkness we moved them on top of our wardrobe because we don’t really have much space for anything in our tiny home.I, honestly, didn’t even expect that anything would grow out of it given my circumstances. But here it is! If I could do it then everybody can.It kinda motivated me to look into mushroom growing on its own, and I think I might even DIY a homemade mushroom growth setup on my own. It will work out cheaper than having to buy a cardboard with straw, I will just have to buy mycelium.Overall, this is a good kit. There’s nothing fishy here as long as you follow the instructions and redeem your free mycelium voucher. I would totally recommend for complete beginners like me.EDIT: the photos I attached were taken approx. 24 hours away. Yes, the mushrooms did grow so much just overnight. We decided to pick up the biggest ones. I breaded them with some spices and put them in the air fryer - delicious! So crunchy on the outside, perfectly tender inside. I love it. I definitely want to try grow more of them in the future.I’m still keeping the box because there are still some very small shroomies growing there, and I’m curious whether they’re gonna grow as well as the first batch. I’ll just keep spraying this box with water and we’ll see how much more mushrooms we’ll grow.Is the amount of mushrooms worth it for £20? Hard to say for now, because I harvested the first batch and still see some new growth.I think oyster mushrooms are quite expensive to buy, I actually never ever bought them in the UK before because I simply can’t find them anywhere so I have no idea how much a small pack of oyster mushrooms costs at your typical supermarket. So speaking from the perspective of someone who really wanted these mushrooms and couldn’t find them - it’s worth it for me. The worst part is waiting for them. The overall experience is worth it in my opinion.I think this is more forgiving than your typical gardening, I’m honestly so horribly miserable at gardening and taking good care of plants. Yet I managed to grow those shroomies on top of my wardrobe in the living room.Another great thing is that you can do it all year round. Of course you need to check if you have the conditions at your home like good humidity and temperature, cleanliness etc. but in general, if I had more space at home, I would definitely set up more than just one box to have sufficient supply of mushrooms.

This is awesome!!
Advice for buyers!! I followed the instructions to the absolute letter and even contacted Elliot at urban farm it when I couldn't get these to fruit at all. I cannot stress enough how these dudes need natural sunlight, warmth of 20 degrees plus and not as much water as you think! After thinking my kit was duff and everything I was advised *SEEMED* not to work I totally forgot about the box which was under the curtains near the patio door so it had had no attention from me for over a month from the last point of contacting Elliot when we agreed I'd probably ruined mine. I went to feed the wild birds 3 days ago and the feed is nearby the box. Noticed the box still there and went to chuck it on compost.... Oh wait... Tiny pink pin pricks poking out of the bottom holes of the spawn bag!! The next day after a very light misting of water as it had nothing for over a month, there was an oyster the size of an ear and some pin pricks coming and today they're as in the photo, the largest one is 2x3 inches, about half the size of my hand.So... Don't lose heart if nothing happens with yours! I started mine in March and this year has been very cold late winter. My house is always pretty cold and I have nowhere other than the patio doors with any natural sunlight because of the way my house faces. I had put them in the greenhouse at one point thinking the humidity would be perfect for them. It isn't. If you follow the instructions you get with this kit and set yourself calendar reminders for when to do the next steps as it is a fairly lengthy process encouraging the spawn in the dark for a couple of weeks, but if you follow it all perfectly then just leave it somewhere sunny but not hot hot and then let it do its thing... I promise you you'll discover a mushy crop of oysters! Just don't start these in a cold end of winter if you don't have central heating! If you get stuck email the address you use to order your spawn and Elliot will gladly help you. He's ever so friendly and knows everything there is about mushrooms!I cannot rate this kit highly enough. I've used lots of mushroom kits before from the compost ones to this one but with what's happening in the box right now this is already the largest same time crop I've had! They're unbelievably fun to look at every day, take a pic and see how much they've grown since the day before. This is worth every penny. The good thing is fresh spawn! Most kits come with the spawn in the compost or in the kit to mix in. These kits require you to email a code to the email address given and your spawn will then be sent out faster than you can imagine! The spawn is grain mixed and fresh as. Makes a good mix in the straw and if you follow every step as intended just leave the spawn guys to do its thang!Never think it's finished! Wait. Wait. Wait. Forget about it then discover the joy of finding its fruited! 🏆 Best mushroom kit I've bought! Will be buying more. Just not in winter in my house! Although I have now bought a heat mat for my seedlings so I could probably pull it off now but I guarantee your house is warmer than mine and won't be an issue anyway!5 stars, great kit, great customer service and great fun!!

Good as a learning tool for eventually growing your own.
The mushrooms themselves taste absolutely amazing, the kit itself for the price is a bit steep.

Many Merry Mushrooms
Bought for myself as a branch out from lions mane mushrooms. The kit arrives with everything you need, except the mycelium. This you need to order from the Urban Farm It website, using the code they give you. Nothing extra to pay, no hidden delivery charges. That way, the mycelium arrives fresh and you are more likely to have fruiting success.I followed the instructions and within 3 weeks I had my first flush of 'pinkies.' I picked them and then I sprayed the holes and then turned the bag over and cut new holes and sprayed the new holes on the other side also. Covered with the bin liner for a few more days and then my second flush arrived. I've now brought my own straw and mushroom bags and have taken some of the spores to cultivate as I've done with Lions Mane in the past.I stir fried the pink oyster mushrooms and they were really tasty. I've also bought the White Elm kit and Shiitake Kit. Having great fun with my merry mushrooms!
