An Up To Date, Well Detailed and at aGood Price.
There are a lot of guides out there. My first advice is to select the most recently published. Many details such as shops, bars and hotels change. This guide was published 18th April 2022 so it is up to date. The better news is that the DK Eyewitness Provence and the Cote d'Azur (Travel Guide) is a well detailed and well priced guide.Well illustrated with great detail and small enough to slip into a pocket or bag.Recommended.

Excellent
If I go to a country/area/city I have not been to before, I tend to buy one of these guidebooks. They are not the most comprehensive, there is no page after page of written detail and history of everything. What these guides excel at is their brevity, whilst making it interesting and colourful. Each chapter deals with a separate area of the country. Each page examines the most important things within that area. It gives you great colour pictures and artist impressions. It describes in succinct detail the history of what you are looking at. The format makes it easily accessible and perfect for use whilst on the move. It fits into a backpack or handbag, is not heavy and you can read each page very quickly so you are not bogged down.I really adore these books, as the descriptions and intricate detail of the illustrations make sightseeing so much easier. On the back, there is a fold-out map, which is can be very clearly seen. The final chapters deal with life in the country, currencies, banking, transport, life in general and how not to fall into the tourist traps etc. They are very informative if you have never visited before.Overall these books bring the country/city to life. They are colourful and succinct and are very easy to use as you travel around. I highly recommend them, if you are new to a city and don't want to get a guidebook that will bog you down with too much detail.

Great content but the book binding so bad it cracks
I buy DK guidbooks since forever. Always happy. To be fair for this destination lonely planet provided more useful info however I always buy both of them since the well complement each other and indeed the section on Gorges du Verdon were terrible in lonely planet and well done in this DK guidebook, so I am glad I got it.The only negative surprise it that when I opened the book it started to crack, I thought they changed the design just to make a change but instead it seems to be a change to cheaper. OId DK guidebooks look well on my shelf while the new one is cracked, needed to glue it to keep it together. Such a shame...

Good detail , reasonable price
Guide books tend to be a very personal choice – It just happens that we like the DK Eyewitness guide for its itineraries, maps, photographs, places to visit, food and wine to try, activities for all and things to see. This guide to Provence and the cote D’Azur is no exception. To date we have visited only a few of the towns – myself whilst working, and when together from cruise ships, so a proper car tour is in order at some time. No guide book is totally inclusive (How did they miss the Cotes du Rousillon wine – for those who might find Chateauneuf du Pape overpriced) and all guide books can only guess at the latest restaurants, hotspots and accommodation. This latest book, however, seemed to give a pretty good starter selection. So many places to see, so little time! There is also a “Top 10 version” to fit in the pocket but this one will do for us on tour and will update later

Perfect, classi DK quality
Perfect pocket size, but nice glossy paper and good quality photos, plus easily available info. Yes, you can google everything nowadays, but you also need to know what to google.

Reliable guide
The EyeWitness guides are my preferred guidebook - I like the layout, find them comprehensive in terms of basic information about there is to see & generally very reliable e.g e opening hours, admission charges, etc.. There are suggested walks, tours of art galleries etc. with cutaway illustrations. As with any guide book, restaurant & bar listings can go out of date but that never really bothers me as by & large I tend to avoid the places mentioned in guide books anyway. The guide covers all the things you are likely to need and is amply supplied with evocative photos to inspire.

Disappointed
Was expecting more in depth information on Provence. Will be giving the book away shortly.

Don't Buy this Guide Unless You're Planning to Sleep in Your Car
Eyewitness has always been my go-to guides. Still top-notch unless you are looking for vetted accommodations and restaurants. If you need an all-inclusive guide of Provence, this one is not for you.
