Is this macrame rope washable?

Yes! Our privous customer used it to make sun hats and washed great. 100% cotton cord.

How many are needed to crochet a pocketbook

I don't have any idea. It would depend on the size of the purse but, this is not yarn. This is macramé cord and stiffer than yarn that you would usually make a purse with. Their are tutorials on YouTube of show to make macrame purses with cord and how much you need. I hope that helps.
