Never clean a rifle from the muzzle end!
Never clean a rifle from the muzzle end!I spend a good amount of money when I build a rifle and AR's are no exception. Your gun is only as accurate as the barrel and good barrels usually aren't cheap. It makes sense to protect your investment with a bore guide. I suspect there are many AR's out there that have NEVER been cleaned and those that are "cleaned" are probably not as clean as you think. A properly cleaned rifle is usually an accurate rifle. This bore guide protects the chamber from damage while aligning a cleaning rod to the axis of the bore allowing one to properly clean the gun. Easy to use. Just remove the bolt carrier group and charging handle then insert the bore guide. FYI: This thing looks huge but it completely fills the area normally occupied by the bolt carrier group. Now buy a good quality one piece AR cleaning rod. Three piece rods are not as strong and can damage the bore or break. Next insert your cleaning jags, patches, brushes, bore mops etc into the rear of the bore guide. I remove the cleaning brush before drawing the rod back into the barrel to prevent damage to the crown. There is a solvent port that allows you to add gun cleaner without completely removing the rod. Use a good gun solvent to remove carbon and then a second to remove copper deposits. Now clean that filthy gun until the last patch is comes out white. Finish with an oiled patch.

Why Did I not buy this sooner?
I should have purchased this before I ever fired a single round through my AR. I have a bore guide for my bolt gun but after cleaning my AR a couple times without one it became clear that it was time to look around. I bought this wheeler guide over all the other ones based on the reviews and the design of the product. I am happy to say that I am very pleased with this and out of all the stuff you can get for an AR pattern rifle this should be one of the first. It fits snugly into the upper receiver and as designed it locks firmly in place when you close the dust cover on the ejection port. To remove the guide you turn it 90 degrees clockwise to line up a beveled part of the locking ring area that will push open the dust cover when you pull the guide. The quality is much more than you would expect for the price. Where the cleaning rod enters the back of the guide is machined in such a way that it is easy to line the cleaning rod up as it is rounded from the outer edge to the inside edge or the guide hole. The fact that this bore guide is made of metal means that when you insert and retract it you can feel it rubbing against the inner surface of the upper. I can't say I really like that as with repeated use it could cause scratching the surface. A rod made out of some type of harder plastic would be better for this reason. The ID of the guide rod tube is larger than that of a barrel so there is still some potential there for a less than perfect alignment when the rod leaves the guide and enters the barrel. Here I would have preferred that the ID be exactly the same as the barrel ID.Overall I would buy this again in a heartbeat but with the quality I don't think that will ever be an issue. It is MADE IN CHINA and that I do not like. I would rather pay twice as much and have a MADE IN USA on there.

Not the greatest on the market, but amazing at the price point.
This is almost as good as the JP Enterprises one for a bit less money. I particularly appreciate the way it locks in the receiver through the dust cover.Build quality is solid. Fits 300 blk. Would recommend.

Happy
So I have used this a couple of times on 2 different uppers. 1 Spikes and 1 Palmetto State Armory. Both fit nice and smooth and no problems sending down the cleaning rod. This thing has some heft to it and feels well built. Is a bore guide necessary? People will say yes, people will say no. I just use it because I rather not take a chance at damaging my firearm while cleaning it. I use bore guides when I clean my bolt action rifles so I purchased this one to practice the same for my ARs. I think it's a good product and worth spending the extra money to give yourself some sense of security.

Great product but…. Don’t cut corners that matter!
I’m an aerospace quality manager. Add 2 quick deburr operations. 1: Deburr the fluid pour hole where it breaks into the ID before anodize…. There are burrs that would scrape someone’s expensive coated cleaning rod that costs more than this guide! Smooth out the contact marks from the anodize process on the ID for the same reason as the first…. That end users have to do this is silly! We’re taking off anodize on the ID burr, which is undesirable! Removing anodize right on the contact marks can’t be helped as it’s part of the process, but remove the raised material! Other than that the bore guide is great. The design and operation is top notch! I love the company and its products. Get on your supplier and your quality department! This is a big deal!
