Very thorough, recommend getting the kindle enhanced edition
Edit: Regarding the Enhanced version, make sure you have one of the devices that supports the enhanced version. I was getting upset, not finding the videos on the Kindle for PC, then realized I needed to view it on my wife's iPad.Normally, I would only like a kindle version of a book if it were something I was reading cover to cover. Paperbacks are just easier to reference when you are looking for specific things. However, the kindle enhanced version of this book has videos to demonstrate the exercise.Ideally, I think one should find a good book reference, good video reference, and a trainer you trust, whenever engaging in a new exercise routine, and occasionally thereafter, to tweak the exercise(s). Even a person who is a top notch trainer can not keep track of every joint position when learning something new, and having someone to tell you "your foot is pointed out too much" is very helpful. All that said... This book has a thorough explanation of core kettlebell exercises. Steve Cotter is one of the top names in the kettlebell world, and is my personal favorite source for material on the subject. He starts off with the basics of the kettlebells themselves, their history, and a little bit about kettlebell competition. Then discusses, workout principles, goals, assessments, and warm-ups.From there, he gives some great explanations of the basic exercises you should master first. Along with the explanations, are good photos, and common mistakes, but like I said, the enhanced version has some great videos. He also has some advanced moves, but oddly, I don't feel he describes these as well. Finally, he gives some routines, and sport specific routines. As someone who personally trains a lot of wrestlers (including my own 7 time New England champion, daughter), I can tell you I was very pleased with the routine he outlined for wrestlers. There is also a glossary, and a section on nutrition (which is touched on so lightly as to be almost useless, and I don't feel should be in this book)This is a great book for people of all levels of kettlebell experience, and for anyone up to advanced, you could get away with this being your only book on the subject.

outstanding modern fitness and KB book by outstanding coach
" Kettlebell Training by Steve Cotter is one outstanding book by an outstanding coach. Not only do we get excellent instructions in kettlebell basic, intermediate and advanced kettlebell exercises, but we get the best and clearest introduction to modern fitness, HIIT training, I have read. Cotter's discussion of HIIT, tabata, workouts is clear and makes what has been a cloudy issue easy to understand. For the individual just starting training this is a clear guide as to how to proceed. For the old timer, this is a clear and simple discussion of modern fitness principles, many quite new and rather radical - read very different -in the last few years. Also included are beginner, intermediate, advanced suggested programs in weight loss, muscular strength, and strength and endurance programs including suggested warmups, main program, and cool down directions. There are 15 sports specific guidelines for an amazing variety of sports. We also get specific approaches to creating your own workouts with excellent guidelines and principles well laid out.The entire book is well and clearly written. The pictures are well done and show the essentials of the exercises.Among fitness books, this is a tour de force, a landmark, destined to be a classic book, accessible to the beginner, but with a wealth of knowledge on modern fitness for the experienced individual.

Good solid book on Kettlebell Training
I am new to kettlebell training and wanted a book to give me the basics and also be useful as I advance in my traininig. This book met those goals for me. I like the color photos of the exercises and the basic information of how to choose a kettlebell and the foundation exercises. The sample workouts and more advanced exercises I read through and will incorporate into my training as I progress. For the money I thought the book was very good for the beginner to start with. One note is that some of the exercises are just hard to describe with words and photos. I did go on-line and search for videos of some of the more complex exercises to see how it is done. Not a negative on the book at all but looking at the videos did help.

Coach Cotter runs down the basics.
If you're looking for a good book on basics, this is it. Any experienced athlete will tell you the secret to success is to master the basics. As a coach, I'm always concerned when potentially great athletes rush or ignore the basics. In my book, we failed; when we can't teach reverence for the game/basics. My old football coach would say, "The games we play makes us strong." He was, of course, correct. Many old coaches (like me ) really like what works and works quick. The kettle bell is guaranteed to make you strong. Coach Cotter's book will get on it. Period. Any questions ? Jim Merlin.

Good book; wish there was interactive content
I thought the book was pretty good. I am new to Kettle Balls, so this book was actually quite informative for me. I wish there was a DVD or access to online content so you could see the lifts in action as "stop-motion" images aren't really that helpful. However, you could always probably search on youtube for demonstrations.

The best for the best type of life-long functional workout.
The author did a great job explaining the basics on kettlebells, from the basics to the most advance. He is one of the best kettlebell/fitness instructors in the world, which is demonstrated in this work.

The best kettlebell book I've read
The best kettlebell book I've read. Not sure if I agree with all the breathing patterns given, because in Alex Hutchinson's "Which Comes First, Cardio or Weights?--Fitness Myths, Training Truths, and Other Surprising Discoveries from the Science of Exercise" the research suggests that consciously controlling your breath may actually hinder your performance. Everything else is great in the book!

The PhD of Kettle Bells.
The topic is fully covered in depth. If you are new to kettle bells, this book may not be a good introduction. However, if you have experience this book will help advance further.

A very good book from a very well respected author and practitioner
A very good book from a very well respected author and practitioner. My only gripe is the lack of photos throughout the book to demonstrate the different stages of each exercise. Very good.

Old fashioned
The book cover looks like this is an up to date publication, not being able to see more pages before you buy, disguises the bland old fashioned black and white content. My reason for buying this was to see clear images explaining the exercises throughout the majority of the book which is not the case.
