Dysfunctional friendships??? I’m in!
While this isn’t my favorite Tarryn Fisher book, (Mud Vein & I can be a better you for the win!) I loved this book!Friendships either tend to be the backstory in a book or they are syrup sweet friendship stories. I’ve been longing for something more and this one hit the mark. For me, many pieces of these girls were somewhat relatable when comparing women I’ve known. I enjoyed looking for myself/friends in each of the characters. The storyline had me rooting for, or becoming angry at the ladies throughout the book. Now, put these girls in Vegas to experience sin city…I couldn’t be happier about it.As far as the cult: this is a warning for the sensitive. There is no shortage of drugs, sexual abuse, child abuse, manipulation and plenty of childhood trauma to have your jaw dropping and stomach turning on every page. For someone like me who doesn’t know much about cults I found it fascinating, sickening and page turning. I don’t want to give away anything, so won’t go further into the story, but will say I appreciate the character built up in the first half of the book that brought everything together into one thrilling big red bow in the end.

Another Twisty Tarryn Fisher!
Love this author! I get drawn into her characters lives immediately and the plots are so interesting! I like the way the story was told back and forth between timelines - but not so spread out that you forgot what you read before! Another excellent book by this author!

Interesting…but fell at the end
The idea of the cult was interesting, but the story line with Braithe fell at the end.I probably would not read another Tarryn Fisher book…just not that compelling for me.

A Five Star Feminist Thriller
Oh Tarryn, thank you so much for finally giving us the cult read we've been begging for. You know, now I'm just going to want more, because there are not enough cult fiction reads out there for me, especially those that capture the truth about cults. That's right, An Honest Lie follows a woman who was once in a cult, a woman who made a brave escape in her youth, but lives her life in fear of the repercussions of leaving. Of course, that's not what her new life is about, at least it wasn't until a fated trip to Las Vegas.Rainy, an artist by trade, has recently moved to the mountains of Washington for her boyfriend, Grant, exchanging the blur of Manhattan for the quiet life. She wants to give him everything, so she goes along with making friends with the wives' of his friends, even accepting a trip to Las Vegas, a place she never wanted to go back to. The trip, though laced with jealous feelings and the one-upping nature of women, feels almost normal. There's clubs, shots, dancing, and pool time. She feels closer to Braithe, she thinks she might have a break through with Tara, and the other girls begin to show their true personality. There's drunken behavior and bonding moments. There's also a tension there underneath the surface, one that Rainy believes is connected to her past, but it isn't until she receives a text from Braithe's phone that she knows her past has come for her. What follows isn't the Las Vegas trip she planned for, but the terrifying escape from her past that she has spent avoiding.I love a good feminist thriller and this one has all the makings of one. The girls are naturally catty, I love that Tarryn doesn't lie about the nature of women in a time where we form these opinions so young, she lets the women be, it is their strength when the time comes. There's no faking that friendships are perfect, that there isn't always an undertone of competition and fear laced in it. That the insecurity isn't there. It just so happens that Rainy's insecurity is much larger than anyone else's and it has nothing to do with her looks or her personality. Rainy is insecure about her past and when it comes for her, she cannot allow herself to be the young follower she once was, instead she must step up, for herself and for the women she has befriended and unwillingly put in this position. It's a haunted tail of love, loss, and the things we let slide by using religion as a reason.I always love Tarryn Fisher's work, I am a true fangirl who believes she can do no wrong, but I will say this is the best release from her out of the past three novels. This one is unique, standout, and emotionally riveting. I couldn't put it down and I hope you won't be able to either.

A DARK JOURNEY...
Lorraine—“Rainy”—lives at the top of Tiger Mountain. Remote, moody, cloistered in pine trees and fog, it’s a sanctuary, a new life. She can hide from the disturbing past she wants to forget. If she’s allowed to.When Rainy reluctantly agrees to a girls’ weekend in Vegas, she’s prepared for an exhausting parade of shots and slot machines. But after a wild night, her friend Braithe doesn’t come back to the hotel room. And then Rainy gets the text message, sent from Braithe’s phone: someone has her. But Rainy is who they really want, and Rainy knows why. What follows is a twisted, shocking journey on the knife-edge of life and death. If she wants to save Braithe—and herself—the only way is to step back into the past.My Thoughts:Alternating timelines in An Honest Lie introduce Rainy, our protagonist, and take us on her journey from the past into the present. I knew we were in for trouble when she agrees to go along on a trip with the wives of her boyfriend’s friends. The trip will take her back to the past, a place she would never want to revisit. As she senses something dark about the women, especially a couple of them, and how this darkness is about to pull her back to her own dark past, I kept hoping that she would just leave. No good could come of this time spent with women who had their own agendas.I kept reading, wanting everything to work out for her, as there was something about her life, past and present, that stirred up memories of my own, reminders of lives everyone hopes to stay buried. 4.5 stars.***

ummm…..what in the world!
Shocked! So I’ve been working my way through Tarryn’s books, and this was my 8th and they just keep getting better and better. What a whirlwind this one was…and I thought I can be better than you was good…this surpassed it! The then/now parts of Summer’s life and what happened to her…wow. Shows you what strength is and how to never give up, even when you’re dealing with the devil. Must read!!

An Honest Lie
An Honest Lie is Tarryn Fisher’s latest thriller. The story follows main character Rainy. We have two storylines running parallel - a past and present. The past sees Rainy’s childhood as she and her mother move to a compound with an old friend and as it transpires they join his cult. In the present we have Rainy in her new mountain home with some new friends, some who end up acting rather strangely. Both storylines are quite complex. We progress through Rainy’s past scenes with little drops of information coming through at a time to build a picture of how future Rainy has come to be.This definitely didn’t turn out like I thought and indeed I had no idea how the ending was going to come about! If you enjoy A. R. Torre’s thrillers I’d definitely recommend you check out Tarryn’s. We are also a fan of Tarryn’s romance novels so check those out too!

Standalone psychological suspense
An Honest Lie | Tarryn FisherGenre: Thriller, mystery, suspenseAn Honest Lie is the latest standalone psychological thriller by bestselling author, Tarryn Fisher. An Honest Lie follows Rainey who is running from a past she would prefer to forget. She reluctantly agrees to a girl’s weekend with some friends where the unthinkable happens. Someone kidnaps her friend Braithe but it’s really Rainey they want. As she rushes to save her friend, she will have to confront what she has tried to desperately to escape from. The book follows dual timelines, past and present. I’ll confess I much preferred the past timeline than the present which for most of the book was pretty uneventful. The real power of this book is in the merging of the past and present and seeing how events of the past shaped her in the here and now. Rainey is a strong, resilient and powerful character which many women would be able to relate to.I loved Tarryn’s choice of names, Rainey, Summer, Taured, Braithe. While I’m not as much of a fan of Tarryn’s most recent novels, this one offered something reminiscent of Karin Slaughter and the chilling horror of small towns and mother/daughter relationships. If you liked this one, check out Tarryn’s earlier thrillers; The Wrong Family and The Wives.
