Awesome book, but within the first few pages, I felt like I had deceived myself for the first 54 years of life. Please, read this and share with friends and family. We've got to do our part to break the discrimination/prejudice monster.

book is a must read in today's social climate

Studs Terkel was one of the greatest essayists of the 20th century...and a Fellow Chicagoan to boot! This BRILL tome is a MUST-HAVE for ANY book collection!

It was depressing how many of the issues remain the same so many years later. Terkel's format remains wonderful; to clearly hear the voices of so many people gives weight to their thoughts.

This was a fascinating, wonderful book. The author gave me insights into racial differences--things that I never understood before. I didn't necessarily agree with everything, but I do appreciate the differences of opinion. A very good read! I highly recommend it. John Reynolds
