How do I get the light turned on? I inserted batteries and turned it on..nothing..

Hi, switch is on the bottom of the lighthouse. Turn it on, then it will be 6 hours on, 18 hours off.

Can this be used outside?

It's wood, so it should be okay outside, but that's not in the description. If you coated it with a clear finish, it would be more likely to survive outdoors.
