Kahtoola MICROspikes Footwear Traction Black Extra Large

This is one of the smartest devices I have seen in years. As I collect birthdays, I have come to fear the ground level fall more. These are easy to use and make ice days safe for simple outdoor tasks like taking out the trash and walking around the block. Simple, easy to use, and extremely high quantity.

My wife and I have been wearing the various iterations of MicrosSpikes since 2009. We live in MN and put about 4-5 miles per day on icy winter trails. I have tried other brands and none have compared to the fit, traction and toughness of these spikes. If you find yourself walking like an ice-skating polar bear - give these a try you will be blown away. They are great on ice and also in snow depths where you would start considering snow shoes. They are also very good in the spring when you have a mix of icy patches and frozen ground.My wife is 5.6 and 120 and has never broken a pair. I'm 6.6 and 260 (maybe a little more after Christmas) and i have broken the chain links on a couple of them. Frankly at my size, the amount of ice we cover and the frequency of our hikes, I'm surprised they last as long as they do. Kahtoola and The Shuttered Image have been very responsive with replacements and recommendations.I would remove them after each use to allow the rubber to remain tight and to allow your boots to breath - you may see a little condensation where the rubber covers the boot.Long story short- I wouldn't hike in the winter without these spikes.

Comfortable and ready to use right out of the box

They go on tight which is good and stay on not matter the direction of ice. If rubber straps stay good I will super happy with them. So far excellent.

Especially if you're needing the extra large size, this is the only brand that actually fill this bill to the tee..... The silicon on this item is superior to other cheaper and stiffer offerings. The silicon is soft and pliable to easily mount to your shoes/boots. And there are hard eyelets where the metal chains connect to the rubber to make tear outs less of a concern. The different sizes are actual graduation of sizes rather than simply expect you to 'stretch' more to fit your shoes. I'm a size 11 ... I use the large for my sneakers and light boots. I got the extra large for my heavy boots.
