Well made: rigid construction does the job well
The rat blocker was purchased for an underground drain to a domestic property in the UK. It could be placed at either end of the drain pipe but I suggest it is where the flow of soiled water enters the inspection chamber. If there is a blockage further up the rat blocker can easily be removed although it would work well anywhere in the pipe work. I asked if it was flexible but the circular casing is, in fact, rigid. This meant it on just fitted into the pipe and I only managed to go into the pipe half way because of the way the pipe had been laid. Effectively it is jammed into the pipe but this works fine. As it is so well made there have been no blockages and 'ratty' came through it tail first and I dragged his carcase out. He died from poisoning. Until I found and sorted the entry point into the drainage system other rats could get into the drain but none of them could get past the rat blocker. With its two flaps it is impassable. Water and excrement easily pass through when there is sufficient water flowing. If solid waste is sitting in the blocker the spikey, serrated edge of the flaps would impede anything trying to push past as the flap would close as it was pushed. I am glad and relieved I bought this product as it solved what would have been a difficult problem. Obviously, insert the rat blocker in the pipe with the flaps opening in the downward flow direction. My advice is to insert the blocker ( I did not need to use the bolt which is the clamp for larger pipes I presume) and sleep well.

Stops the rats.
I was having an issue with rats coming into our single storey extension via the bathroom and getting into the flat roof. We found that they were coming through the drains as the toilet waste pipe has a big hole in it. I saw these and got 3. Best money spent as these fit into the old drains perfectly and I like that there are 2 layers. They let the waste out but don't let anything in. So far so good, no more rats.
