Balanced story, emotionally engaging.
Billy does a good 'un here. He presents, often without judgement, America from his perception. You can tell when he's angry or sad or happy and his writing style makes you want to get angry and sad or happy right along with him. His description of the imagery was sufficiently vivid that it felt like I was riding a trike alongside him, pulling into every dusty diner and every surprise monument. I heartily enjoyed reading this and look forward to forgetting enough of it to read it again.

Light reading
Entertaining book . However not Connolly's usual great humour .Should have had some more comic reading added . It certainlydidn't encourage me to travel that route, but I am sure it is a truthfulassessment of the places visited along the way. Some good historicalinformation in the book . When I think of Billy I think FUNNY , so I was a littledisappointed . Great holiday reading.

The Big Yin On The Big Bike
Funny, informative, historical, sad and refreshing. A good read for all people that are fans of the Big Yin or just enjoy a good yarn or a travel story. Inspired me to do the same and have placed the Route 66 tour in my bucket list.

Did ye Bring the correct Michelin map?
I've always loved Billy Connolly, because there's always something very special about being a pale blue person! But Billy! Did youIn fact, I thought you might have made a wrong turn and were writing about Belen!Come back! Ah'll give ye a hysterical tour of every beck, Laird, Clan, and bonny Conquistador clashes we've endured over the past 400 years! ..Only one thing...ye must wear yer kilt, because I have a thing about knobby, hairy knees - and ya ken that there's nothin' more fetching than a man in a kilt, without his breeks! Tara!

Do your own thing
At times i found myself laughing and then at other times, I felt like having a good row with the author. This is one of those books that starts off well, but then gets lost in itself. It offers some funny stories, some strong opinions and, some mentions that are not necessary. Verging on destroying people's livelihoods or dreams. By the time I reached half way, I was struggling to read on. Billy Connolly will tell you, that he doesn't care what people think of him. However, most people do have feelings and do care what others say.If your going to do Route 66.. Then, whatever you do - do it your way. If you choose to drive a Cadilac or, ride a Harley..let it be your own choice. Do your dream and be free to enjoy the time of your life.

Great read.
I've thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, especially having been a fan of Billy's & the accompanying tv series. If you enjoyed the series, you will enjoy the book too. Well worth a read.

A road that lost it's drive.
I have always enjoyed The Big Yun in whatever form....but...it was with reasonable expectation that I began to read this book.Billy started of well but became more pompous than usual and seem to wander about a lot without making Route 66 live,it mainly existed..I finished it but was close a couple of times to giving it up saying "who cares"I'm glad I read it but wouldn't rush to lend it to my friends.

Its Billy Connolly you cannot go wrong.
The series and book came out about two weeks before I drove route 66 myself. I wish I could have read the book before I started my journey as I would have liked to have used this as a reference. Its not a guide book but the characters you meet along the way are well represented and it would have given more confidence to explore on the journey and enjoy it.

I Wish I could have given it 4.5
I started the book with a bit of trepidation the the BigYin might go all show biz and bollox with this one, but thankfully not, we'll not too much any way.A thoroughly good read which left me (and probably many others) jealous that you just don't get meet such interesting characters in our humdrum lives. However Billy made it feel like like it was me talking to them. I never realised I had so much in common with the big fella over matters of real importance. As for the road itself, I have always resisted making the bucket list that every saddo does, but I think I really would like to take the highway that's the best, probably in an old Mustang or even a pick up truck, reading the Grapes of Wrath again as I went.

Awesome read
This book is a real chuckle. Billy as always puts his spin on everything and makes you see it in a different light. His tales of driving along route 66 are both interesting and inspiring. Watch the TV series first then read the book. They go hand in hand.I read this over a few days and found it very hard to put down.

Billy Connolly on route 66
The book accompanies the most interesting TV series about route66 by Billy Connolly. It does not attempt to be a comprehensive guide the route 66, but what it does, it does very well. As well as useful information for the route 66 traveller, it gives Billy's opinions and comments which make for interesting reading and tells you fascinating facts not found in other guide books. So I would recommend the book for enjoyment and for extra information for the route 66 traveller.

Started well and then ran out of steam
I bought this book for an upcoming visit to USA during which we will be taking Route 66 from Chicago to St Louis. Fortunately for us about 50% of the book covers this section. After St Louis he starts to run out of things to see/do that the average Joe would also be able to see/do. At times he is a bit pompous and condescending and the last 3rd of book is very weak and ends in a bit of a whimper.

Billy Connolly's Route 66
Enjoyed the journey through the pages of the book. Some of the characters he met were very interesting and if he didn't like something or someone then he let you know. An entertaining read.

The Big Yin's best tour so far
The Big Yin, has provided the ability for evryone, who has ever dreamt of riding, Route 66, to fullfil that dream. For that alone, I truly do thank you.Billy has surpassed himself this time. His natural comic blend, mixed with some absolutely fascinating facts, along his journey, make this DVD an absolute pleasure to watch. A true classic. Excellent production.
