High Quality with Lots of Potential
I want to start off this review just talking about how amazing the packaging is, in my opinion when you get to more luxury vr devises it really is the small things that count. Everything was packaged securely and safely. This is not just another cardboard compatible headset it is instead it's own creation of a new vr headset. Everything about the design just SCREAMS quality and attention to detail.Disclaimer: I have tried the HTC VIVE and plenty of google cardboard compatible headsets therefore I will be comparing them to those. I am using a galaxy s5 (5.1inch screen) for the test of this device. This product was provided to me at a reduced cost in exchange for my honest and integral opinions of the product, all opinions and ratings are my own.Pros: Superior visual quality for vr of 2016, Quality construction, adjustable focus, built in acceleromatorsCons: Lack of color choices, poor app supportComfort: 9/10 The device is at a similar comfort level as the HTC VIVE, once you put it on you really forget that it is even there! There is plenty of cushioning all around the device, just be carefully not to get too sweaty!Visual Quality:7/10 VR still has a way to go no matter what product you go to on the market. Even on a 1080p screen the pixels are still very visible. The adjustment for the focus is a great addition to the headset that allows you to fine tune the focus on the device for your eyes, this worked really well for me and for the friend that I had try it. I personally couldn't tell the difference in the response time between the headset's accelerometers and the ones in my phone. I still think it is a quality addition to add these though as not every phone has great accelerometers.Applications: 5/10 Here is where the device fails in my opinion, they chose to go the way of using their own proprietary software instead of being cardboard compatible. Because of this most of the vr games that require any type of button input do not work properly on this headset. The software that is included is really not too great. It works well if you are trying to use their cinema thing and watch videos already stored on your computer but I found that the servers were really too slow to even be able to stream videos and downloading took a very long time. The app only has 3 games on there when you are browsing on your phone but when you put on the goggles a few more show up. I was unable to create an account to purchase some of the games on there so I only got to try the free ones, they were honestly only entertaining for a few minutesManual: 10/10 The setup was relatively easy and strait forward, the manual was comprehensive and walked you step by step through the entire setup process.Final thoughts: I think this is a great product that a lot of money was invested in to getting the design just right, some people say it is the samsung vr headset for non-Samsung devices and I have to say that is a bold claim. I feel like it could have become that if the app support was at the level of Samsung and their servers were fast enough to stream their demo videos. Even given the poor app support I think I would still recommend this product to anyone who is looking to get the full VR experience with their flagship phone while not breaking the bank! The product still works great for things like YouTube's cardboard application and other ones that you can use hands free.
