If you're going to buy a Magic Keyboard, consider this
First, the pros that make this better than Apple's own Magic Keyboard for iPads:- Rubber edge protection- A row of function keys- About half the price- Fabric finish feels nice in the hands and is is not a dust- and fingerprint magnet like slicker-finished cases. The draws:- Larger footprint on table/lap, since the tablet is propped up by a flap that extends out from the back of the case. For me this is cancelled out by the fact that the Magic Keyboard is not exactly lap-friendly, because the weight of the unit is tipped towards the back, making it prone to falling backwards.- Weight. Both make your tablet fairly bulky - though still a bit less than a MacBook Air would weigh, I would think, though the weight is distributed over a larger area in the case of the Air and it might feel lighter. The cons:- Very slightly less responsive keys/typing experience?- Hard to grab the tablet out of the case when you just want to use it as a tablet, minus keyboard. (Get the Combo Touch for that.)I bought this for about US$140 outside of India in May 2022, and while I first regretted not getting the Combo Touch, I find I've got used to folding the keyboard over around the back of the tablet and using the iPad as a "pure tablet" that way. At first, having your fingers rest against the keys when you're using the case this way might feel odd, but of course, the keyboard is not transmitting input to the tablet in these cases, when folded over. This also means that you can also use the unit with the face of the keyboard acting as the base/stand, but I feel slightly paranoid of using it this way on hard surfaces for fear of snagging the keys on something with abrupt movements. The typing experience and key travel are overall very good. Backlight is a much needed and appreciated feature. Logitech worked closely with Apple on this, the Combo Touch, and possibly other keyboard models, which makes a difference: for one, the keyboard does not use Bluetooth to connect to the tablet but Apple's smart connector protocol, which makes for a much more seamless and stable connection.Trackpad too is very good. Though made of plastic/acryclic or some such sort of material, it provides the smoothness of a glass/metal keyboard. Most, if not all, of Apple's trackpad gestures work, though I only usually use the more common ones, like three-finger swipe up within an app to go to the home screen, two-finger swipe up for Spotlight search, three-finger lateral swipe to toggle between apps and such.If given a choice again, I might go for the Combo Touch, which is identical except the keyboard detaches, but I'm not sure the price premium is worth it.
