Vermont Smoke & Cure - Uncured Summer Sausage - No Antibiotics or Added Hormones, Perfect for Charcuterie Board - 6oz

These are one of my dad's favorite snacks. We would always get these from the Vermont Country Store but Amazon is much cheaper and faster delivery. Great with crackers and cheese or to just eat it by itself.

This Vermont uncured smoked pepperoni is the best. I’m not much of a pepperoni fan as it usually has chemical preservatives and is too greasy and heavy for me. But my son likes it on pizza, so I bought this uncured pepperoni (which has naturally occurring nitrates from swiss chard) as a topping for homemade pizzas I’ve been making while at home so much lately.While I tend to eat vegetarian toppings on my own pizza or make a BBQ chicken pizza, I caved and ate pizza with the pepperoni and was surprised how good it tastes and how It has a good texture. Adding a modest amount adds a lot of flavor that’s meaty, smoky, a little spicy and salty. Vermont tastes less processed to me than other brands.I’ve bought four sticks (two orders of two sticks), and we’ve polished off three sticks. They tasted totally fresh and had reasonable expiration dates. This pepperoni comes unsliced, and I just slice it all at once just after opening and freeze what I won’t use within a couple days. The taste and texture are still excellent even after freezing.This is a pork pepperoni with beef casing. It’s salty and fatty like other pepperoni, but once well cooked it has a nice even color and doesn’t have icky visible pieces of fat. Some oil pools like other pepperoni, and we like to blot the excess as a matter of preference. For me, the $6.64 price I’ve paid per package is reasonable for the quality. Gluten Free. Love it. 5 stars.

Delicious, high quality product, with a smoky spicy sweet flavor. For a crispy cupping effect on pizza though, it’s best thinly and uniformly sliced; a tedious job by hand.

This is confusing since the summer sausage and pepperoni comments are all intermixed. Anyway, the summer sausage is amazing. Having it was like stepping back through time to when companies had standards. This one is American, I noticed. The meat even has those weird little seed things that I had forgotten about, whatever they are. This summer sausage is true, old fashioned, German styled goodness. It's nothing like what you find in grocery stores nowadays. I was going to just try it, but then I couldn't stop myself, and the whole stick was gone within about 10 minutes. It's heavenly on cheese crackers. It's also better than pepperoni on pizza. It releases a lot of oil/grease when cooked on a pizza, to the point where it will make white cheese look a bit like cheddar, but it's so worth it.

We used to be able to buy these in local stores, but now, they are hard to find! Not sure why!This is very good pepperoni!!

This summer sausage is NOT a bad product, it doesn't suit my taste. For others they may really like it. I will describe it to youand you can decide for yourself. Here goes, this sausage is very, very, greasy, it has a VERY mild flavor and not much taste.You can tell that it is not chemically made. It is very clean tasting to almost no taste. I do believe that care was taken makingthis summer sausage and it is chemical free, that's the most that I like about.Again, I am not trying to turn you against this sausage just telling you the truth, it may be just what you are looking for. Thecompany did a fantastic job on delivery, matter of fact it arrived before the due date and had a very good freshness date.It was packaged well and arrived in perfect condition. Let me say again, it is fresh and very clean...

Update 2: I've had to drop this from 5 stars to 1. The first one I got was amazing. The second one was rotten, and the third was all slimy and smelled like fish. And not being returnable, I feel like a sucker for trying it so many times.Update: Not changing the stars, but the product needs sturdier plastic to protect it. I received one with ripped plastic and the meat was rotten.Original review: I bought the product due to a YT review I saw on it. Wasn't disappointed! I just ordered some more as well as two other products from this company.I read some reviews that suggested they thought this was expensive. You get what you pay for. Top tier meats cost top tiers to produce. I wish this was cheaper too, but having made summer sausage myself understand that the only way to do that is to sell a crappier product. I'd rather enjoy this less often at high quality than get quantity over quality. There are plenty of cheaper products available if that is what one is looking for.
