Cheaply built, but works
Got this to run my plex server headless. Works as advertised. Made cheap, but I just plugged it in once, and can get my full resolution while logged in remotely.

Easy Peasy!
I recently purchased an ASUS Chromebox to run Plex. My home setup originally comprised a work-related Windows laptop, connected via a DisplayLink docking station (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GQQO8FA/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to 2 monitors, a mouse, a keyboard and a Jabra headset (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003YJ2WBY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1) to support Skype calling for work. The dock was directly connected to my LAN using an ethernet cable. While purchasing the Chromebox my initial thought was to use a Plugable sharing switch (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JX3Q28Y/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1), however, there were complications using this. The first issue was getting DisplayLink adapters to work with the OS I installed on the Chromebox. The second was that my Jabra device was useless when connected to the Chromebox since it needed a Skype installation on my work laptop. The third was that for the minuscule timeframe that I would switch out the connection from my work laptop, it would drop the connection, at least the first time.So my alternative was to use VNC to connect to the Chromebox. I was using X11VNC, and while this works fine if there is a monitor connected to the Chromebox, the lack of a monitor causes the resolution to get hammered.A little Googling brought me to this product, and I decided to take a chance on it, given the low cost. Upon arrival, the unpacking was easy enough, and it took me a total of 1 minute to shutdown my Chromebox, plug this in, start up the machine and connect to it using VNC. All resolution issues magically disappeared once I rebooted!Very few products have been so effortlessly effective within a minute of unpacking! I highly recommend this item.

Great way to trick your computer into thinking a monitor is hooked up and outputting at proper resolution!
This is great! I primarily use it for Steam's in-home streaming from my gaming PC to my Mac mini.My current setup in my office involves a 2012 Mac mini as my primary machine, hooked up to a single monitor. I have a gaming PC that is also on the desk -- it used to be hooked up to a flaky KVM switch that rarely worked, so it was a hassle to use whenever I wanted to access my PC.Now, I just have this plugged into the graphics card of my PC, and I connect to it through various VNC clients like Splashtop or iTeleport. It tricks the Windows machine into thinking that a monitor is hooked up, so output is rendered at 1920 x 1080 (without this, the graphics card never activates, so all output is rendered at 640 x 480 and looks horrible connecting over a VNC client). As an added bonus, I've been able to stream a number of games to my Mac using Steam's new in-home streaming interface. So now, I can still play the latest top of the line games on my Mac mini with no problems! (Without this display emulator, I actually can't use Steam's in-home streaming application because the resolution ends up being too low).At the end of the day, there are ways to make your own device like this, but it costs just as much (if not more) to get a cable and then do some soldering. This works, it's high quality, and really affordable too.

I was able to over drive it with cru and nvidia drivers.
Works as designed. Didn't think much ordering the 1080p version since, honestly I found it off a google search and didn't think twice of it. After I got it I was only a little dispointed that it was a 1080p 60hz output, but with cru and nvidia's GPU drivers I was able to set a custom 1440p 120hz resolution on it and it's worked just fine. I have noticed a bit of weirdness with the overdrive but nothing terrible.

Perfect for booting a mini-PC as a headless server!
I am in the process of setting up a Gigabyte GB-BXBT-2807 mini-PC as a headless server. I learned the hard way that for this computer to boot at all, a monitor must be connected to the HDMI or VGA port, and an HDMI monitor must be at least a 1080p resolution! I even tried temporarily plugging in my older 1400x900 monitor just to get the computer to start, and it still wouldn't work. This was unacceptable for using the computer as a headless server. I learned about this fit-Headless adapter while looking for possible solutions to allow my mini-PC to boot headless, so I ordered one to see how well it would work out.The fit-Headless adapter has worked flawlessly for getting my computer to start! I am able to remotely reboot this computer and ensure that it is still operational, and remotely shut down the computer so that it turns off completely, without causing it to reboot or freeze. This adapter is highly recommended for setting up a computer as a headless server whenever a monitor must be connected.

Godsend
The built-in VNC server in macOS is awful. If you're planning on using a Mac Mini as a headless computer, the video output over VNC is slow and bad. Plugging this little thing in makes the computer believe it is outputting signal to a real display, and increases the quality of the image over the network a millionfold. So glad I spent the couple of bucks on this thing, but in a perfect world it would be nice if Apple would just fix it.

A must have for headless systems.
Windows 10 in particular doesn't like not having a monitor plugged in. It can make using the computer in a remote situation pretty difficult. This is a cheap and effective way to trick the computer into thinking there's a monitor. You can set any resolution you like, and it just works. I use one of these on every one of my headless stations.

Easy workaround for bugs in MacOS screen sharing.
Sad to say I am very pleased with this gadget. Sad because Apple's Sierra OS makes screen sharing unusable with a headless Mac Mini and, as I hoped, this provides a workaround. Plug it in and the bug just goes away. It seems to me also to provide a workaround for a different bug in an older version of MacOS that means a shared screen does not redraw correctly - very irritating rather than disastrous, but a welcome extra. Really if Apple isn't going to fix its software (and there's no sign that it is intending to do so) it should offer one of these to every owner of a Mac Mini.
