Higgins Black Eternal Ink, 2.5 Oz Bottle (44041)

This is THE ink for your dip pen based on 45 years of personal use. It can also be used on a brush. It is waterbased-permanant. Gum arabic can be added to thicken small batches in an inkwell, and water to dilute/lighten it. Care must be used in selecting paper and envelopes as some fibers may tend to bleed. This is not the ink's fault.

Vibrant and nice stay

This Higgins Eternal ink works best with dip pens. The ink just isn't dark enough for me. Compared to my other fountain pen inks this one looks watered down and is not very dark.

Excellent black pigment used on wood with lacquer overspray

Higgins eternal ink is such an easy ink to use. It goes on well, rarely feathers when using a moderate to good calligraphy paper and provides a nice black with good coverage. It's not the deepest of deep blacks, but for practice it works well for me. There's no weird smell. I haven't seen any fading with lettering done several months ago. There's never an issue with waiting long lentos of time for this to arrive. I like that you can use it straight from the bottle without needing to dilute it.

This ink is recommended for ease of use and reliability. One would think that better packaging would be a priority as the bottle will inevitably leak. Take appropriate precautions to protect your supply and anything nearby.

My bottle of ink that I received said water resistant. Not permanent is nowhere to be seen on the bottle. Just a heads up.

This ink is gorgeous and not impossible to remove from your skin. It’s very dark, with a shiny gloss finish once it dries. It’s one of the prettiest black inks I’ve used and doesn’t smell like dirt either.

A classic--works excellently when used with pointed antique nibs in oblique pen holders for engravers, roundhand and business scripts--not for use in any fountain pen though.

A tinta é boa (usei em bico de pena; não sei como se comporta em caneta tinteiro), mas não é à prova d'água ou resistente à água como o nome pode sugerir, i.e., "eternal'.

Despite being advertised as compatible with fountain pens, this ink doesn't work very well with fountain pens because it clogs up the feed of fountain pens. I don't think the seller or manufacturer of this ink intended to lie by falsely claiming that this ink works with fountain pens. I suspect the seller or manufacturer simply didn't test this ink thoroughly enough to see if it actually works with fountain pens (which it doesn't). So please, don't buy this ink if you intend to use it with fountain pens. It will end up clogging fountain pens. But this ink works perfectly fine with dip pen nibs. So if you intend to use this ink with dip pens, by all means buy this ink. Just don't expect this ink to work with fountain pens.

Very good ink . Highly recommended

This is nice ink, not too thick or thin! I use this in Hunt 101 and Zebra G nibs for engrosses (copperplate) script and it writes lovely. Dark black, not waterproof but lightfast so will last a lifetime on paper.
