Not the most interesting book
This review is primarily to help Spanish teachers determine if the book would be a good fit for their classes. The book is bilingual with Spanish and English generally on the same page but sometimes on opposite pages. The story line is that the family is waiting at for grandma who is coming by bus from Mexico to live with them due to grandpa's death. They've built a chicken coop to distract her and give her something to do. The kids read to the chickens. Grandma sings to the chickens. She dances for the chickens. Everyone is happy that she is happy enough again to dance. The next day the family learns that they bought roosters not hens. Then grandma returns to Mexico. The illustrations are nice. There are good references to Mexican culture that could be used as extensions. It would probably be good for Voluntary Free Reading. It's rather sad for a class reading. Just rather blah.
