My project came out beautifully!
This was my first time using a gel stain. I had two nightstands that I bought at a garage sale. They were in pretty bad shape. I sanded the tops really well because they were really bad. I lightly sanded the rest and wiped them down good. When I opened the gel stain it was like jelly. I had to stir it vigorously for at least 10 minutes! I used a rag to wipe it on and it said to wait 3 minutes before wiping off. 3 minutes was too long. Should have wiped after 1 minute. It gets really sticky and doesn't want to come off. Anyway after some really hard scrubbing it looked great. So I finished the rest of the cabinet waiting only 1 minute. It worked great. The top still looked a little lighter than the rest. Probably because it had been sanded bare. So I did another coat using a brush this time. Way easier! So anyway, that was the whole process. About an hours worth of work overall. I love the finished look! Very happy with the product. It just takes a little practice. See my before and after pictures.

Love this paint gel !
Love this paint gel paint, if it can make this old bench look good any thing else will look great! I had to put it on thick because this wood was not so good, even though it looks black in the picture it is more of a deep nice brown. I did use a whole can on it and a little of a 2nd can ( 1/2 pint) , if I know what I was doing one can probably would have been more than enough. You can’t go wrong with this, it was easy to work with and covers very well ( if you need a lot of coverage like I did), or applied as a light stain it’s perfect. The color is very nice.

Not to leave it on too long because it gets sticky and hard to wipe off.
I love this product. My first time trying it, also. You’re looking at the original door to my 1940’s house. I had it stripped of all paint and couldn’t decide to paint it or not. I don’t like paint because of the streaks it leaves behind so I chose Minwax Gel. First, I applied Minwax Conditioner. Then applied the gel but not according to the instructions on the can. I left it on for 1 minute then wiped it off, working in sections. If you leave it on too long it gets sticky. I like the color (you can see some wood grain showing through). It would need another coat to make it darker. I’ll wait til spring and decide. Final coat would be Minwax Polyurethane. Also, this was not solicited by Amazon. I bought this product.
