15" Ottoman Pet Cube - Faux Leather - Dark Espresso

A very nice product, one thing to note, there is an odor of mothballs at first, so PLAN IT OUT. after it dissipates, this is a great little cube. I threw out the little pillow inside and put in my own. The faux- leather is very fine. Yes, there is a warning that formaldehyde was used in the processing, but if you are familiar with the industry, the processing these things involves all kinds of nasty chemicals anyway.I use this wonderful, and I do mean WONDERFUL ottoman on a daily basis and Mom just loves it to put under her feet. We thought the cat might like it to hide in, but it turns out he prefers to be out where he can see people. He chose apet bed a foot away. I researched for three hours before choosing this product and I am very pleased. The only reason I didn't give this product five stars was because I was a little put off by the mothball smell at first. The faux-leather is the best I have ever seen, and I wasn't born yesterday. It's a high quality product at a bargain price.

We absolutely enjoy it. It gives me somewhere to comfortably put my feet especially when I have a fat cat in my lap (I have stuff on top of it as well right now). I won't say it's common, but the cats have used the bed and even get on top of it. Will post some pics (yes I have messy issues). I've had this since the beginning of the year (going on a year soon). I will say it's sturdier than I expected. It's still in good condition in spite of the use. I like this ottoman a lot, no regrets purchasing. Regarding the people complaining about smell, yes it stunk to high heavens when I pulled it out of the box, but the next day it was fine - I did nothing special, I didn't air it out or whatever. Wouldn't you stink if you were faux leather packed in plastic?

Smells awful after unpacking, but will hopefully clear up in a week or so. The lid is heavy and nicely cushioned; the sides are a bit on the thin side, but as long as a lot of weight isn't put on top, it should hold up. The pillow inside feels really cheap but since it's for a cat to lay on, I'm sure it's sufficient. If your cat likes to scratch everything but it's scratching post, you might want to consider an ottoman with a different cover- faux leather isn't forgiving.

I have a very poor sense of smell after several surgeries, and this smell coming off this thing as soon as I took it out of the box made me feel ill straightaway. I can't imagine how strong it would be to a cat. I put it outside until I get a chance to send it back. I would agree with the reviewer who said the odor is similar to mothballs.The product listing clearly states that the item is "formadehyde free", but the item is stamped "California compliant for formaldehyde" which is not the same (the California standard, while stringent, does not require absolutely no formaldehyde.) I don't know if this odor is formaldehyde or something else, but whew, it is strong! It is stamped "Made in China", and given the track record of other products that have come from China, I don't know if they actually tested it or just put the California compliant statement on it so they could sell it.It is quite sturdy and easy to put together, but I just don't think I can trust it.

i received this yesterday and it smell like moth balls x 20. i have washed it febreezed it and I have washed the pillows and it has a very bad smell still. I will give it one more week and if the smell does not go away I will return it. but otherwise it was easy to put together and the smell does not bother the cats they love it

This has much too strong a chemical smell to be safe for pets in my opinion. I aired it out outdoors for over a week and was able to get a lot of the odor out but it's still too strong to let my pets sleep in. It is a good footstool however and matches my decor nicely.

Like other reviewers said, the thing did have a very strong smell. I just let it air out in an open room for a few weeks. I bought it specifically for my cat who likes to hide, but it was a little small for him, so definitely only buy this for SMALL dogs and cats. The bigger, 10lb+ ones might not like it.

Liked the use of it as a foot stool for our chairs in our travel trailer, but the chemical smell is still an issue. I would like our little dog to use this, but I think I am going to have to replace the pillow with something else.Structure of the cube is fine, just the smell is bad.
