Simple and fun!
Super fun game! Our family loves games, so this was easy to learn. Even though the rules stress that you probably won’t make it, 3 out of the 5 of us made it in our first time playing, and the other 2 only died really close to the end. There are a couple instant death cards, but only about 4 in the large deck of calamities. The rules were worded a little weird at first, but we understood it. Super great theming and design as well! Overall fun, simple game that got us all laughing.

Enlightening
Really fun way to teach your kids the trial and tribulations of the Oregon trail. They will however talk about dying from dysentery a lot so heads up.

Just as frustrating as the video game was. You will enjoy it or hate it.
Definitely very much like the video game and that may not always be a good thing. The first time I played it was only two player and the very first challenge card I drew, I died due to a rattlesnake bite. I mean....seriously?!? All that game set up and I go out like that. Brings back the frustrating memories of the game. It plays well enough for what it is. Pieces, design, and quality are all there. Rules are not complicated and only take a couple minutes to learn. Although you will love the idea of playing, the overall gameplay may get frustrating depending on your luck of the draw. My partner was able to survive for several more rounds until the challenges overwhelmed them and they lost. The game does leave to dead companions with nothing to do but watch, which makes it a difficult party game. Again, this is all premeditated and you can not fault the game or it's design. It is based on the original video game and this stuff happened. For those looking for nostalgia this game didn't miss any of it. Good game design and as tough as the origin DOS game.

Fun nastalgic computer game from the 80's now in card game format
My nephews showed me this game last year. I had heard of the original game on the old microcomputers back in the day. Pretty fun to bring a long when meeting friends who aren't that much into board gaming.

I need more time...
Warning, our play through of this game was cut short due to holiday shopping, so the true review of the game is still to be determined. This was 'the Game' everyone wanted to play, the mis-assumption was that it would take less than an hour, urrgh. The rules got us bogged down for a good 10 minutes, 3 people reading them and trying to fill in the blanks. Granted one of the readers is a self confessed OCD type and hesitant to boldly go into the unknown and fill in the blanks with your own rules - ooops, going to get talk at for this sentence :) You need a 3 ft cleared area to play between the START and FINISH. Yes, you can do 2 or 3 shorter areas, but only available to flexible minds <snicker>. Game play is coop. It progress well, unless "rule" concerns come up :) The game is faithful to the video game, you get into trouble and die quickly. This was a little troubling for one of our <9 year old players... 4 players is a good minimum group, with 6 being on the stressed side, and 8 should go play Cards Against Humanity. Overall, I got a good taste for the game. The may need some tweeking, but it looks like it could be a great 2-3 hour gaming session. Now I got to find a 3d printer file, for the oxen and wagons

Great cooperative 6 person game. Not easy to win, fun to play just like the game on Apple IIgs. You have died of snake bite. You have drowned, died of dysentery.
