Brilliant Solution.
I am using my old 10.1" Galaxy Tab S5e as a head unit in my Land Rover, this adaptor and a few other leads have solved my problem. Now I have Carplay and Android Auto in my 18yr old Land Rover that has an Alpine Bluetooth head unit. Downloading and installing the apk was very simple from the link provided, plugged in the adaptor when instructed, then my phone, voila, Carplay operational. My only issue initially was my headunit would not recognise Android devices, my iPhone was no issue, but once I paired my tablet with the headunit using bluetooth, sorted. This adaptor, although designed for use with cars that have touch screens, is a perfect solution if you want to use an Android tablet as a headunit and have a way to get the audio output to your vehicle head unit. Slow to start, but once everything is connected, about 30s, its a great solution. Better spending £38 on the adaptor, £17 on a USB C hub and a USB male to USB male lead (£18) to ensure the tablet is constantly powered that spending about £600 on a dedicated single DIN headunit that has a flipout touch screen with Carplay and Android Auto built it.

Works randomly and keeps crashing.
Works well rarely. When it works, amazing piece of kit. But unfortunately it keeps crashing often requiring resets and rarely works perfectly.

Works well and good value for money
Purchased a Android head unit for my MG TF 160 but sadly it didn’t support Apple Car Play. Installed the app on my device ( as suggested on here ) and then ordered one of these which came the same day. Plugged the device into the USB connector of the stereo and then plugged in my iPhone 14 Pro using a lightning cable and Apple Car play now works. So easy to setup and runs much faster than my Android head unit. Google maps runs a lot faster compared to the stock stereo version also. Very happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend.

Great CarPlay Upgrade — Just Needs a Cable
Super easy to set up — you plug the dongle into your Android head unit, install their app, and in under a minute CarPlay is up and running. It still needs a cable between the dongle and the USB port, but once it’s set up, pairing is quick and stays pretty stable. A little lag here and there, but honestly it’s a solid value for the price. Totally does what it promises.

Still Going strong 12 months on
Purchased this last year and so far it is still going strong with no issues and this is used daily. I will highly recommend to anyone. It is simple to connect to an android screen and has great functionality just like a factory fit system.

Perfect Xtron android
The xtron unit I have is very slow to load Google maps so I thought I would try this Android Auto dongle and then can also WhatsApp / message while driving. It work perfectly, simple to install as fits into the USB lead on the xtron unit ready and easy to download the application via link on the box. Google maps / Android auto running from my phone to the unit is now flawless, the bonus of new WhatsApp messages being read out to me is now much safer and reply via Google talk the same. You can add via Android auto other apps too but maps is all I need. This device is so much better then using screen mirroring on the xtron unit too. Plus it's the same device that xtrons sell just minus the xtron sticker on the box - see someone's review under the xtron device. If your xtron unit Google maps works fine and is not slow to load maybe don't bother but for £36 and to use as if using my mobile Google maps - ultra fast.

So difficult to get to work
Yes it works, but have to spend five minutes in the car setting it up every time I use it, then it really lags. Using Google maps or Waze is just about possible but takes ages to catch up with what is happening on the road. The screen size in android auto is far too small on a 7 inch android screen compared to running apps native on the head. And yes my head fits all the criteria that the auto dongle requires, so I keep adjusting settings but it's a bit hit and miss.

CarLinkit CarPlay Dongle
I got this to use with my android head unit. Installation was easy after working out what to do, but I could never get CarPlay to work, it just froze on connection and never reconnected. This went on for a while. Also the dongle is terrible quality
