Daily Warm-Ups: Reading, Grade 2 from Teacher Created Resources

If you keep in mind that this is strictly for testing reading comprehension skills, then you will like the book. The topics are not meant to be educational necessarily. They are meant to test a child's comprehension skills. If the child can read a small passage and answer the questions correctly, then they are comprehending what they are reading. I am a 2nd grade teacher and I use these passages strictly as part of my students' morning work (aka bell work). We read the passage and review the questions as a class, and I let each student grade their own paper. I do not take these for a grade... I use it to get their brains going in the morning. Hence the name "Daily Warm-Ups." I really like that there is a chart in the back that tells which passages are below grade level, at grade level, or above grade level. It's helpful for differentiation.

As a homeschool parent, my kids "warm-up" for language arts with this book every morning and they love it. Fun, interesting topics, with short reading blurbs and a few questions to answer. All they need to get focused for the day.I use 2nd and 5th grade. Highly recommend!

This is a wonderful resource for teaching test-taking strategies along with reading standards. Since the text covers many different subjects and genres, I can create packets to go with science, social studies, and health lessons. Passages are long enough to be challenging, and short enough to be handled in a short period of time.

Great gift for granddaughter going to 2nd grade.

I use this for a quick review several times a week in small groups during reading. I use the various levels of this product according to accomidate their reading levels. They don't require much and can be copied for an overhead and dry erase boards used to answer questions to save on copies.They are set up similar to SOL questions and give them repeated practice without the student feeling overwhelmed.

A little bit easy

The Daily Warm-Up series is a wonderful resource. These are reading passages that engage my students. Ideal to keep on hand in the classroom to use when you have a bit of extra time. Since the series ranges across a group of grade levels, you can match the reading passages to the students' reading levels. As a teacher who too often buys resources I don't end up using, this series has been a wonderful find. Some passages are US-specific, but not so many that it deters me from use in my Canadian classroom.
