A sequel that holds its own.
We loved the first Big Fat Greek Wedding movie, good clean fun. This sequel follows the same family years later when Ian and Toula's daughter is applying to colleges. The fun ensues when it is discovered that Gus and Maria are not legally married. Of course the entire clan gets involved in everything. What we liked was seeing Ian's parents coming out of their quiet lives to be included in the goings-on of this crazy, raucous family. It's silly fun that emphasizes the importance of family traditions tempered with the next generation's attempts at moving forward.

good movie
you can't beat the first movie, but this was cute to watch. the acting was a little too forced it felt like. but the first movie was just perfect. apparently there might be a 3rd coming

Great!
This is a really cute movie, but only if you have seen the first one and understand the history and inside jokes of the original characters, etc. The part that I really enjoyed is seeing many of these characters more "grown up" (aka, more middle-aged), and facing common issues that many long-time married couples and families face as they grow older. That said, I still have to say that the first one was a little better. Considering that this was made sooo many years after the first one, and they were able to get most (if not all) of the original people in to do this follow-up, it stands out to me as very impressive. There are a lot of sweet moments, and they did indeed stay true to character on the original cast. I love how they portrayed Toula in this era in her life, where she is juggling with possible upcoming empty-nest syndrome, lack of romance, and people pulling her in different directions, expecting her to be Super Woman and fix/smooth everything over for everyone and everything. While they were light-hearted in portraying this through the movie, I feel a lot of women who have trouble saying "no" when others come running to them for help constantly for their own life's problems (at the sacrifice of tending to her own immediate issues, whether it's making time for romance, getting "me time", or whathaveyou) can really relate. I also like how they portrayed Toula's fear of her child going away to college, since it's apparent she spent a lot of her time wrapping her world around her daughter, and she is confused on how to handle this if she leaves. Many mothers share this same fear when their kiddos leave the nest, and I think it was a great, realistic (albeit light) way of showing the emotional struggle many parents face when the time comes for them, too. When I first saw My Big Fat Greek Wedding (first one), my husband and I did not have children, so we really could relate to the primary characters in some ways. Now that we are older and have children, it was refreshing to watch this and see how Toula and Ian (and the rest of Toula's family) had grown, and how they are facing issues regarding children and getting older, too. I would ordinarily give this about 4.5 stars out of 5, but since I can't give 1/2 stars, I am rounding it up. While we enjoyed this movie, it did not have quite the same charm as the first, but it was still very well written, creative, and still held our attention in a way that we could still relate to the primary characters like the first one.

A fun sequel!
As sequels go, this one is better than most. It (naturally) lacks the novelty of the original MBFGW but is every bit as much fun to watch.

Enjoyable but not as complex as first film
If you liked the original My big fat Greek wedding you will probably enjoy this, The old cast has re-assembled with some new actors playing the next generation. Yiayia (Grandma) is still with us and has developed. The description of Greek American life in Chicago which percolates the original is taken as given and the story proceeds from there. There are lovely satirical points about the wedding industry and other asides. The extras that come with the video are enjoyable. It is like meeting up with old friends and family so if you have not seen the original you should probably start there. I think this is a love it or hate film.

Good film, not an amazing sequel.
Purchased this a mother's day present for a fan of the original. Disappointed as not as good as the first but amazing that the original cast are still in it! Would recommend if the price is lowered. If you found this review useful, please mark it as helpful.

Not as good as the first one but still charming
All the same characters as the first one & the story is a continuation of greek/american family life.It lacks the novelty of the first film, but it's still a charming story with some good characters & some new twists, so if you like the feel of the first film, you'll like this one too!

Entertainment
Enjoyable sequence, but the sound is not prefect and the video is not sharp and the colours are not bright. Perhaps the DVD is better.
