Bigoted rubbish
Hard as nails, down to earth scots wearing kilts centuries before they were invented besting the more numerous, effeminate English who have a fetish for orange tabards and are too busy cackling and twiddling their evil moustaches to fight properly. The historical inaccuracies of this film are legend and don't need me to repeat. The battle scenes are fun but again, entirely hollywood, and the idea that William Wallace secretly sired Edward III is the icing on the fantasy cake. As I say, a few stars for the battles but the thigh slapping good old boys Scottish/Irish vs the limp English who line up to be chopped up is a cliche too far. Gibson pulled the same stunt in the Patriot where the English were portrayed in exactly the same manner, hanky waving fops compared to gritty, hard as nails American colonists who secretly don't like slavery. You wonder how the British empire got forged at all with such limp men in charge.

Won't Play On Sony UBP-X800
Just a heads up this disk causes my Sony UBP-X800 to freeze. I don't even get to see anything. It freezes on load and the only way I can make the player responsive again is to unplug the power. This has nothing to do with Regions as Amazon have confirmed it is correct. Amazon have also replaced the disk and the new one is exactly the same. Sony support just say "In reference to your enquiry about Brave Heart disc which doesn’t play, kindly note that after investigation in your case, we can confirm that it’s a disc issue. Kindly refer to 20th Century Fox who should provide a replacement disc".

Freedom In 4K !!!!!!
One of favourite movies of all time-so I had to buy the 4k disc . I had the Blu-ray of Braveheart and it was great -but the 4k version is even better . You get two Blu-Ray Discs along with the 4K disc-which is great value for money . The 4K version of Braveheart has beautifully enhanced colour, tone etc . It takes you closer to the action and has ATMOS for enhanced sound . This would make a great double bill alongside new Robert The Bruce movie "Outlaw King" which is brilliant and a must see.

As awful as I thought it would be
This film never ceases to disappoint. Admittedly, it is well constructed to meet the main audience's needs and nationalistic expectations and hopes, but the historical inaccuracies and fake accents are a turn-off.No expense is spared on make-up and costume, but the actors still have 21st century Hollywood teeth. I wonder what elixir folk of the 13th and 14th century used to prevent aging?

Classic epic movie
This was my favourite film back in 1995, went to the cinema around 6 times to see it. Twenty five years on, it is a great example of film-making at it's best.I can now see this is not a historically accurate documentary on William Wallace, but a fictional adaptation of his life. As long as the viewer realises this, they should enjoy it. Patrick McGoohan gives a great performance as King Edward I.Blu-Ray picture quality is stunning.Still one of my favourite films of all time.

Just remember it’s Hollywood!
This film is over 20years old and I had never watched it. Loved it even though there is criticism of the historical facts I just put that aside and enjoyed it for what it was. This then encouraged me to start reading about Wallace a nd Bruce. I’m a Scot and was never taught Scots history, what an eye opener.

4k DISC PLAYS WELL ON SONY X800M2 WITH STUNNING PICTURE
We were cautious about this 4k disk playing ok as we own the mark 2 version of Sonys X800 UHD player and had read other reviews about there being problems. The new disc was cleaned with a microphibre cloth prior to playing.Once the disc began we had no problems at all and can report that Braveheart has a stunning 4k picture which shows a definite upkick in detail from the standard blu ray. There is a very fine filmic grain that is barely noticeable and the colours (although very blue in hue) are deep and rich with green and reds really popping. The Dolby Atmos track is ok.... not as good as that on Blade Runner (which is unbelievable) or the Harry Potter DTSX but is certainly wide and engulfing....Well worth the trade up from standard blu ray.

Unmissable and compelling
Gibson at his best; an amazingly moving account of a difficult period for Scotland. Heroism depicted in a realist effort (through muddy clothing for instance). The music carries the entire movie to even greater heights or depths of feelings as you watch the life of a true hero unfold .. all with inspiring views of Scottish lands.
