Great GPS
This was one of the best purchases that I have ever made. A lot of people complained about the mounting kit and volume of the GPS. The mounting kit is better than any other mounting kit. Just put it on your window and turn it to tighten. It's rock solid. The disk they give you for the dash will not stick but that's nothing that some double stick tape will take care of. The volume of the GPS is fine. I think that people have issues because under the Volume preferences menu gives the option to "Link volume to car speed." Maybe that is where people are having problems? I really like this Tom Tom because it's small and compact. It get's the job done and at a great price. If you need more options I'd upgrade to a higher version of a Tom Tom. For a "Beginner" GPS it has all of the essentials. Points of interest, easy to use and get's me from point A to point B.

TomTom does what its supposed to...Great product.
I have been using my TomTom for over a year now, and have purchased additional ones for friends. Works Great!Occasional upgrades using the PC are simple, and you can download most new voices and new little car icons for free.Others are available for purchase.Using the unit is simple, but some times you have to get near a destination before all the POI's show up in the listings. No big deal.Doesn't say the names of the streets, but gives you enough warning, I typically turn the sound down anyway. After a year, I've noticed my battery life is getting shorter...but I leave it connected to the included adapter power most of the time. While researching for a GPS unit, make sure all the maps and software updates are included. Some other brands of GPS units charge you for the maps, (even the first one!), and you have to subscribe to keep them current. Extra costs.Thats why I went with the TomTom.TIP:Don't put your real home address into the unit as "Home", because if your unit is ever stolen, the theif will know exactly where you live. If the unit is in your car and the car is stolen, they will probably have your garage door opener as well.Use the center of your hometown instead as your "Home".You can usually find your way to your house from there.

Great value and a great product
I ordered this TomTomOne for my 75 year old grandmother who has to drive into the city a lot for doctor's appointments. Amazon had the best price too, even when the local stores had them on sale! I got the chance to use it when I was visiting as well. It is so easy to use that she was able to set it up and start using it the day she received it. The volume is loud enought that she can hear it and understand the directions easily. It has given her a lot more confidence on the road, not needing to look for street signs that are sometimes not there or missing a turn because it will correct your course if you make a mistake. I love it and am thinking about putting it on my Christmas list this year too!

Non-Working Tom Tom
This was bought new at Amazon. It was not a refurbished. This was the second Tom Tom I bought for my son. His first was stolen from his car, but he never had any problems with it. I bought it for him as a Christmas present. But, he got a job that required a GPS so I gave it to him ahead of time. He plugged it in and got a big red X on his screen. And could not get anything else. He called customer support after having him do all sorts of things he still didn't have a working GPS. They told him his computer was to old to download the program into the GPS ??? Told him to use another computer ? So I contacted them and asked if the program had to be downloaded into the computer. They told me it was only a small program that I could delete afterwards. They told me what to do and got me as far as preferences, they said my son could do that part himself. So we hung up and he couldn't choose the preferences when he got it later in the evening. Had to call them back again, make all kinds of changes to the files already installed and then install the entire mapping program etc. I asked them if this had to be done because I preferred to use my other computer they said no. So now it takes me an hour and a half to run a virus scan on my computer. I preferred to use my other computer as I could have made a back up cd and deleted the program from my computer. Also they told me it wouldn't take long to download and hung up , it was almost two hours to download. I would have sent this non working TomTom back had he not needed it right away. Beware if they tell you you have to download a small file.
