Q: Will this grip to a steel surface (I have a huge spice rack with steel shelves)

It "might" it doesn't REALLY Have any TRUE grip to it at all.. I think the stuff at Dollar Tree is more "sticky" in that respect.. This slides around in my wood bottomed drawers... so I'm constantly putting it back and realigning it... I would have returned it.. but I had already cut it by the time I realized it didn't have any real "Sticktoitiveness"

Q: Can the mat be placed under toaster oven without melting?

I guess it mostly depends on what type of toaster or toaster oven you have. Personally I'd be *very* hesitant to use a sheet of it under any kind of device that heats up. But perhaps you could cut out small square pieces to attach to the toaster feet to stop it from sliding on the counter top...?

Q: I ordered very berry and uou sent white, why?

Human error? I am guessing they will replace or refund?
