Far better quality than expected. Very happy.
I'm really more impressed that I thought I'd be. The glass part is nice - functional, if not a bit awkward to pour the last few ounces out due to the shape. The filter fits it perfectly. And 800ml is 27oz, so it's all just the right size to make three 9oz cups of coffee - or two (+3oz) 12oz mugs. It's definitely a kitchen item and not a travel item since I wouldn't likely carry around the relatively-fragile glass. But the filter is really the star of the show here - and I might actually pack it for travel along with THIS >> https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09FHPRCDW. I'm no coffee specialist but the quality of this filter seems amazing, and it makes a perfect cup of pour over coffee, keeping the water drippinng through at just the right speed. Not too fast (be patient!) and not too slow (maybe 3-4 minutes to run 800ml through the coffee?). In the end, I'm left with a smooth, tasty cup of my favorite coffee and I can use pretty much any grind from fine to coarse. Buh-bye paper filters. See ya Mr. Coffee and expensive Keurig pods. Hello good, strong, hot coffee!

Fantastic Little Coffee Maker
Very impressed with this little coffee maker. Combined with the JavaPresse Manual Coffee Grinder | Conical Burr Mill for Precision Brewing | Brushed Stainless Steel , it has been a game changer in the quality of coffee I'm now able to have each morning. This is the first time I've ever used a pour over coffee maker and it's not likely I'll go back to any other way of making coffee. I prefer my coffee hotter than, well, hell. The reason is because I take my coffee with light cream which obviously is kept cold. Following is how I make a cup of coffee so that it turns out as hot as possible. ○ Fill the carafe with the appropriate amount of clean, very cold water ○ Transfer this to electric kettle or appropriate kettle on stove ○ Turn on the hot water tap with the carafe underneath and begin letting the water run until it is steaming hot ○ Place your normal amount of light cream in the coffee cup ○ Place 1/4 cup of beans in the grinder and start manually grinding ○ Once the flowing water is piping hot, turn it off and carefully set your coffee cup bottom into the top of the hot water in the carafe. This will cause the chill to come off the cream inside ○ Continue grinding until you're about 1/2 or 3/4 done ○ Turn on the electric kettle ○ Continue grinding ○ When done grinding, pull the coffee cup off the top of the carafe (notice the chill is now gone), dump the still hot water out of the carafe, place the cone filter in it, pour the fresh ground coffee into the filter ○ By now, your water will have just finished boiling + a very brief moment of pause (this acts to bring the temp closer to about 200°) ○ Immediately begin pouring water over the ground coffee and wait for it to finish ○ Pour coffee into the cup containing your cream I'll not say the coffee is lip burning hot, but it's not far off at all. While this all sounds incredibly time consuming, in fact, it takes only minutes to do all of the steps above. The longest wait times are when you are grinding and when the water is going through the coffee in the filter. I'll try to time myself next time at normal speed and will edit this review accordingly. I believe it takes me no longer than about 5 minutes to make a cup. What's delivered is a steaming hot cup of coffee that's aromatically gorgeous and incredibly tasty. It's so good, I often think about wanting more during the day and as a result, will likely buy another pair for my office. I am hooked and not sure I can ever willingly go back to another method of making coffee. Edit: Ran my stopwatch to see how long this took without rushing. At 5.46 minutes I had completed pouring the water over the grinds. At 7.04 minutes I was drinking a steaming cup of coffee. 01/17/2020 updating to note this little system is still going strong. Zero rust, still insanely easy to clean and the glass it still perfect. Really great little product.

Lovely little coffee maker!
I am a college student, but I usually only drink one cup of coffee a day. So, while looking for a new coffee maker, I wasn't looking for anything too big, especially as I share my small dorm kitchen with my two roommates. I was also interested in experimenting with manual coffee makers; one of my roommates last year had had a Keurig she let me use, but I wasn't too impressed with the results, so I knew I did not want to invest in a pod brewer for myself. The CoffeeGator pour-over hit the nail on the head. It delivers on all fronts: compact size, sleek design, fairly priced, easy to use, relatively speedy (compared to the average French press), fun to experiment with, and most importantly, a delicious brew. I have never enjoyed drinking coffee black in the past, but now I do at least a few times a week and really enjoy it. I usually use a #2 cone-shaped coffee filter just to make cleanup faster, although going filter-less definitely works, too, and cleanup doesn't take that much effort. I was going to leave a review when I first bought it back in July, but I kept forgetting to. Yesterday, however, I accidentally dropped the carafe and the top half shattered. I had noticed other Amazon reviews mentioning that CoffeeGator had replaced their brewers for various reasons, so I thought I may as well try to contact them before buying a replacement. I emailed them last night explaining the situation (with a screenshot of my Amazon order) and a little over 12 hours later, they have already graciously responded and shipped out a replacement! I was willing to buy one of their replacement carafes (which isn't as expensive as buying the whole kit again) but was relieved and impressed by their customer service, especially being on a college student's limited budget. Kudos, CoffeeGator!

Awesome coffee, just the right size, super cute!
I'm never going back to a kuerig or French press. Never ever ever. This perfect little thing makes delicious coffee! I had previously gotten a much larger pour over system (uses a paper filter, but I can't really tell a difference in flavor) and a large caraf for when we have company and need a much larger volume of coffee. But that was excissive for our daily routine so I needed something like this. It's perfect for every day, a cup each for myself and my husband, and more delicious than anything else! After much research, I decided on this system for two reasons: 1) awesome reviews and 2) the lack of paper filter. I got my Gator last night and my first try was this morning. I used a medium-coarse grind but the coffee passed through crazy fast and was pretty weak, so I put the strainer over my coffee mug and poured the weak coffee over the grounds again for another pass. It is PERFECTION. Side note: my coffee grinder is a Caspresso Burr grinder, and it has 16 settings (extra fine, fine, medium, and coarse, and each of these settings has 4 more levels, for an exact grind). I had mine on the finest level on medium. Tomorrow I'll try level 3 or 4 on the fine setting for a fine-corse and I think that will fix the issue. UPDATE: While I still adore this little guy, I think I should let you all know that it is NOT dishwasher safe. I usually handwashed it, but my hubs puts it on the top shelf of the dishwasher....and it broke. Cracked and chipped at the top. We have only had ot maybe 6 or 7 months. We love it so much we got a whole new one (they're not that expensive!not) but thought I should take off a star and update the review. Hand wash only!!

A quality unit.
Pour over always best for subleties of complex coffee flavors. The caveat of pour overs is keeping the coffee hot without loosing the complexities. You can find the way with some trial and error. I think it's worth the effort.

Makes great coffee
I was poised to not like this coffee maker because of some of the negative reviews and the price. However, after three electric coffee makers in 5 years, I am ready to go back to basics. I have used this pour over coffee maker 4 times now. Every time it makes perfect coffee and I am somewhat of a coffee snob I guess. I do have a French Press coffee maker but I struggle with how much water and coffee to use for it. With this little pour over I can see how much water I am using. I measured one "cup" of water using my favorite coffee cup. That's how much water I use in the pour over with 1 tablespoon of coffee grounds. When the water boils, I can pout it into my cup then over the grounds. I can also pour the boiling water directly over the grounds and wait for it to get to the correct measurement that is marked on the glass of the pour over. It is very convenient. After that small amount of figuring and measuring, I now make coffee quite rapidly. If you're not getting good coffee with this pour over coffee maker, let me gently remind you that it begins with a great coffee, the pour over apparatus has somewhat, but not a lot, to do with how good your coffee is. I like this coffee maker because it makes coffee quite fast, it is easy to clean, It takes up little space on my coffee bar and, It is very quiet compared to an electric coffee maker. That is important to me first thing in the a.m. I do recommend it.

Perfect for a hobbit with low self-esteem
As noted by the dimensions, the filter is small (400ml). As noted by other reviewers, the carafe is delicate. And as noted by me, a female with normal-size hands, the gripper on the filter is tiny. All this makes me feel rather giant when I’m making my morning coffee. Hence, this "awesome coffee-making equipment" (per the note included from Phil, Coffee Gator Founder) seems perfect for a hobbit. And why one with low self-esteem? Who else would appreciate Phil addressing them as "sensible, attractive people like you"? I might not be disenchanted with this coffee brewer if not for a couple of things: 1) I like my coffee strong, and 2) I'm accustomed to normal human-size pour-over filters. The amount of coffee I use fills this filter to the top. So I have to do multiple little baby pours to get all the water through that my 3-cup coffee container is waiting for. It's a long wait. This is completely my fault, though. I should have kept searching Amazon until I found the Coffee Gator brewer that comes with an 800ml filter. (I fell for the ole “Amazon’s Choice” ploy.) I have since discovered that the large filter can be purchased separately for a mere $16.99. Added to the original price I paid of $28.99, that would be ONLY $45.98! (If the large filter would even fit my delicate little carafe.) Instead of spending more money, I remedied the situation by using #2 unbleached paper coffee filters, which adds an inch to the height and makes cleanup a snap. So the coffee brewer works fine for me now, and it does make really good coffee (as do the hundreds of other pour-over coffee brewers out there). If this product were not made in China (I had to really dig to find that out), the price might be worth it. But considering the cheap labor, the only thing I can see that the extra money is for is all the marketing: the printed collateral (excellent paper quality!), the website, the ebook, the "coffee masterclass videos," etc. Even if you don't want any of these “free” extras, you're still paying for them. But no worries, Phil. I’m enjoying my coffee, and, if something goes wrong, I most definitely will not be "afraid" to let you know (another pearl from your personal note). By the way, if you ever want a proper edit of your note, just let me know.

Easy, simple, instant.
Love the flavor that comes from this pour over coffee maker! I didn't realize how smooth coffee could be. The filter has a mesh liner inside and I haven't had any issues with grinds getting in my cup - my coffee is a medium grind. It took me a few tries to figure out my own method of making the coffee. I use my Zojirushi water boiler (use the slow dispense option, water temp set at 208 - I tried the 195 degree setting, but I prefer it hotter) so my coffee is pretty much instant and I can make myself a cup throughout the day rather than set up the Mr. Coffee drip machine every time, which also needs to be cleaned regularly with the vinegar brew. The first couple cups I made with the Coffee Gator were very weak. Then I learned how to bloom the coffee first and twist my carafe under the water boiler to add the water in circles. Then I realized I could set my carafe on an upside down bowl under my Zojirushi (mine is the taller 4L version so I needed the lift) and twist the filter only. The coffee isn't as strong as I used to drink it, but I appreciate the flavor more now. It takes me less than 3 minutes to brew coffee, including clean up. The rubber grip does get pretty hot, but I'm fine pouring the coffee immediately. I don't know if I have a higher pain tolerance or my nerves have been desensitized since I prefer my hot foods to be boiling lava hot. Easy to clean, just rinse and put in the dish rack. This makes 3 cups of coffee, which for us translates to about a mug and a half. I love how simple this coffee maker is and we no longer use our Mr. Coffee...no more obnoxious beeping early in the am to wake up our children.
