Amazing
Disclaimer: I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to Fantastic Flying Book Club, Edelweiss, and HarperCollins for this free copy. All quotes in this review are taken from the Advanced Reader Copy and may change in final publication. So everyone keeps mentioning how this book reminded them of an anime or a manga, and I have to say I totally agree. I was also going to pick a more action packed gif of a kitsune from an anime, but I feel like it could have triggered an epileptic reaction so I changed it, but you should totally look it up if youâre interested. I will say that I was a little hesitant at first about this one, despite absolutely loving the synopsis and seeing that Maetani was one of the authors. Honestly, my doubts or fears about this novel were washed away as I was reading this, and wow I canât get over this one.I freaking loved the story that Kira had to go through in this story, and I know that the whole âfinding out your family has some secret that you never knew about which ends up coming to bite you in the ass when you least expect itâ trope can seem played out, but itâs a good trope that works. Donât knock something thatâs so good at pulling a reader in to the story. And in this case, I feel like Alameda and Maetani did an amazing job of pulling me in from the get to.Like immediately.I feel like one of the reasons why I had a little bit of doubts in the beginning was because I wasnât sure how Alameda and Maetani were going to do this, and I was just hoping that the Japanese mythology and culture in this novel would be done right, and done properly. So I was so thankful to read this and see some familiar stories that I remember hearing growing up, and seeing that it was done in a way where I could be proud of this story growing up. And Iâm just so freaking glad that I was able to read this novel. I know I said this over and over and over, but I just really fell in love with this novel.

Devoured this book in one night!
A truly wonderful tale with an amazing rich and beautiful world that intertwines modern day Japan with the many myths and folklores of their history and culture. This novel has a little bit of everything for everyone! Itâll satisfy anime/manga fans to your average avid reader. As a mythology fan, I truly enjoyed the way the authors wove some of myths into this modern retelling and found myself wanting to explore many of the characters backgrounds even more as well as some of the magical locations mentioned in the book.I could not recommend this book more. Itâs a fun good read and will definitely keep you entertained for a while. I read it from end to end the same night I bought it and find myself yearning for more tales from this world.

Won't be able to put the book down!
I came across this book unexpectedly and I'm so so glad that I pre-ordered it! I stayed up till midnight so I would able to sneak a few chapters in. (As a first college student, I don't know the definition of sleep)My love for Japanese mythology knows no bounds and I've always loved reading about the Shinto faith. Along with the many gods that exist within that faith. And I can say with much joy that I greatly enjoyed the character development! I can tell much thought and love went into creating this book. You guys did absolutely amazing capturing Japan and the many things that make it so unique and I hope one day we might see more of kiras adventure!

The authors truly brushed up on their knowledge of the culture and it shows! I have been recommending this everywhere I can. The ending still tugs at my heart. I pray theres another book! I. Need. More! Please read it! You wont regret it. If you love anime/manga, then this is for you. I felt as if I was reading an anime. Soooo amazing.

Stunning
Seven Deadly Shadows, a retelling of the Seven Samurai is classed as a young adult novel, but don't let the classification fool you. Excellent read.

Didn't hit the mark
âïžâïž/ 2â©Seven deadly shadows is the story where we follow Kira, whose family shrine has been attacked and she must go and protect it from the next attack during the blood moon in a months time.â©The Japanese culture in the book is really well researched and the information about folklore definitely piqued my interest in reading this book. But that is kinda it...The book started of really good and I really enjoyed how the start was written. We get to know the characters weâll be following. The characters were people I didnât really connect with and the dialogue didnât always made sense to me. This left me a bit confused while reading. The pacing of the character development is a bit like going from 0-100 in seconds while the story pacing is quite slow in comparison. It just didnât seem to match the stories progress. The romance was a bit sudden. I knew there was probably gonna be romance but still, like nothing had really happened between the two and than suddenly they were kissing. I was a bit confused by the sudden turn and it didnât feel real to me. Also they keep kissing but she keeps saying theyâre friends... like whatđ€šThe grand finale was also quite anti-climax and a bit weird. It felt like it was over before it started.â©Overall, it is a nice book to learn about Japanese folklore, but there are way better books out there that do that as well.

Gostei bastante e lerei novamente!
