The description says to store the cup in the freezer, but the instructions that came with it said to refrigerate it and not to freeze it. which is it?

I can actually answer this because my boyfriend used this cup for a long time and he had put it in the freezer upside down and it worked perfect every single time and then one time he decided that he was going to leave it in the freezer with liquid in it and it was the right side up and that ruined the cup so if you are going to freeze it make sure that you freeze it upside down that way the cup doesn't get messed up cuz he was really upset when his cup was ruined.

What is this mug made of?

It’s plastic with a double wall construction. Some sort of freezable gel is sandwiched in between . They mugs are great they keep any liquid super cold and if left in the mug long enough you will have a slushy!

Will the plastic start cracking after a year?

No. My first set lasted for over 12 years I have had my second set for over 5 years now. Never had a problem with cracking unless I dropped them (1st set) I will always buy more as needed.

are these ok for hot drinks???

I would not recommend since they say hand wash. My guess is something with the heat from a dish washer would effect it. Similarly, I would not use a hot drink in it.
