The footrest is soft and supportive. It will let your feet "sink in" slightly but not to any great depth.

Thanks for your question. It means that you could make the footrest higher by adding an extended piece. If you don't want it higher, you could remove the extended piece.

You may remove the bottom or add the bottom cushion for adjustment

I am heavy and have large legs, and I find it less supportive than I would like. It compresses a little too much for me, and WAY more than the pictures show!
