I purchased this Zenwifi a couple of weeks ago and have been testing it out before sharing with my take. I’ve tried various routers including extenders and still struggled with unstable connections. I constantly experience internet connection issues downstairs, 3-floor townhouse, as our modem was connected upstairs and there are lots of walls where the signal could be lost. First, I was skeptical that only two units could take care of my internet issues (a router and node) but was surprised when both LED lights shined white (strong good connection). I even connected my parents internet to the regular connection (you could set up a regular and a 5G connection separate) and even though they are downstairs, their signal is very strong. Even on a different floor, streaming Netflix and YouTube is quick with no disruptions and Facetime is smooth with no lag. I’m very happy with its performance and would recommend to anyone looking to improve their internet connection. Setting up was easy too – I’m not a very technical person. It only took me a few minutes to get the system rolling and the app that runs it is an interesting little tool. Relocating the node to a better spot and having it reconnect was quite easy as well. I was able to configure everything through my phone and can manage the connections on my phone from anywhere in the house. I especially like being able to see all connected devices on the network and the ability to control access to individual machines; I can see this as a very useful tool to limit screen time with my littles!!

We purchased a new, larger house, and I needed to resolve some coverage and speed issues. My AX86U did an admirable job and while I could have just purchased another, we have some Wifi 7 devices so I figured I'd go ahead and futureproof. I read a lot about my options (primarily Wifi 6E and Wifi 7) on several sites, but ultimately, DongKnowsTech is what convinced me to buy this unit over others. My main reason for writing this review is because there are not many reviews yet, and there are a lot of experiences posted elsewhere that were not good. Based on my experience and what I've read, I believe that this is likely related to bad software on release and has been resolved with firmware updates. Perhaps my experience will help you feel more confident about buying this unit if you are strongly considering it. I was nervous about the setup and performance based on experiences some other people had. The only issue that I had during setup was that the node MUST be close to the main unit when setting it up. Even though they can communicate in different areas of the house, it has a difficult time completing setup if they're not close by and will just flash blue. If you experience this and it's in another room, move it in the same room temporarily to complete setup. Once the setup was complete, I updated firmware on both devices, and updated the MAC address on my ATT Fiber modem which was already in Passthrough mode. Once that was complete, I moved the node upstairs and confirmed that it was working. Since I have ethernet in the room that it's in, I plugged in to utilize ethernet backhaul. I also changed a couple of settings in the Asus router app to prioritize ethernet backhaul over wireless backhaul. Once that was done, I confirmed that I still had a connection upstairs, and the app confirmed that it was using wired backhaul. Ran some speed tests on my phone and I was getting 700+mbps on the unit upstairs on 5ghz. Faster than I expected. Wifi downstairs is just as strong. My office and gaming pcs are plugged in ethernet, and I'm capping out at 900-1000mbps whereas I was previously hitting 600-750mbps. NOTE: I switched out all of my ethernet cables to Cat 6A, so this may have had an impact on speeds. Previously, I had Cat 5E and some cables that were not marked and may have been lower grade. One odd thing that I have run into is that my Bravia 7 does not want to connect to any network that has 2.4, 5, and 6ghz available. If I limit it to 2.4 and 5, or one or the other, OR just 6ghz, it will connect fine. But, it will not connect to a network with all 3 active. For now, I have it on it's own network using 6ghz but I'll have to dig into this. I have not had any issues with any other devices connecting. That includes TVs, Hue bridge/bulbs, tablets, game consoles, soundbars, robot vacuum, smartwatches. Everything is working. Overall, I'm very happy with the product. The setup was painless and though I expected good coverage, the speeds are better than expected. It has the same Asus features that I'm familiar with, without extra fees. The only thing that I'm not happy about is the price. I know it will come down and Wifi7 devices will be cheaper in time, but I needed a solution now and didn't want to re-visit again in a couple of years. Since I used Amazon Rewards, in combination with a lower priced Like New unit with Amazon Resale, the price was quite as hard a pill to swallow.

Upload compared to my Eero 6+ was horrible. Download was marginally better. On paper this is a good gigabyte system but in reality it had lesser range. Ended up returning it. App and settings are great though. Maybe only the upper end units like the BQ16 actually perform like they should.

I am brand new to mesh systems as of this unit. I am very involved with technology and have built a server and several computers for my personal house, as well as the computers for all of my immediately family members. Up until recently I never put much stock into changing the router in our house, but when remote work became more of the norm, the bandwidth in our area plummeted. I searched all over for means of solving the issue and eventually settled on this mesh WiFi system after literal days of research. Some say that XT9 system is not that good for punching through walls, but this is false in practice. We live in a 1600sqft house with a lot of walls. We have the main router set up in our living room on the eastern wall, and then the secondary node set up on the western wall. The signal coming from this device is astonishing. No dropped signal anywhere in our house. I can even walk to the back of our property and still get signal, which was impossible before. I cannot recommend this device any higher. This is where I will end the main review. If you decide you want to purchase this device please read below. When I got this device initially setup I was having a connection issue to our router. I bought these used instead of new, which I did not think would be an issue. The light on the front should glow blue when connecting to internet, and then switch to white when fully connected. The lights on both units were red. I called both our ISP and Asus at 5am in the morning when I setting up these units. Ultimately, the person at my ISP was the one who figured out the issue. The units were still trying to connect to the IP from the last owner, which means that my IP, which was clearly different, was not being recognized. On the bottom of the device is a small pinhole with the word “Reset” written above the hole. After sticking a pin into both the main unit and secondary node they finally started flashing blue before turning white and connecting. This is an issue that not even the rep from Asus was able to figure out. If you are having a similar connection issue, then please make sure to try resetting the units as I mentioned above, but once you get your units working never press this again unless you want to set up your system again from scratch. The reset button removes all settings and stored information on the units. This will remove your account information, setup information, passwords, and even configured orientation.
