Dick Multiron Sharpening Steel, Fine & Regular Cut, 12-inch, #7650330 Yellow

This thing is incredible. Hands down the greatest steel I’ve ever used. I’m a meat cutter and this thing has my knives at least as sharp if not sharp and then the day they were when I bought them. 3 swipes on each side and your knife will be slicing through meat like a lightsaber. It’s a little pricey but I know two different career meat cutters who have had their F. Dick steels for 10+ years going strong. The normal steels I buy are roughly $30 apiece and typically wear out after only a few months of heavy usage. So this thing pays for itself within a year. Highly recommend it. Everyone that’s used mine says they’ve never felt anything like it.

I was uncertain about how the "multiron" worked. I got a wonderful reply from the nice folks at Mad Cow that explined it. I have been using it now and it works just as advertised. I have another 5-6 steels and this is the best. Below is their reply and it is true and correct. I would but it again. "The rod consists of very fine grooves, with larger grooves spread across the steel. During regular use to keep you knife edge straight and sharp, and to remove small burs, you can lightly run your knife across. If you have larger burs, then the larger grooves will help remove those. If you knife edge has a little extra wear, or you have a small damaged area, you can apply a little more pressure, and the larger grooves will help repair and sharpen enough to keep you going until you can take the blade to a stone or sharpening machine. This is a very popular steel and receive very good feedback from Amazon and from our webstore where we sell most of these, mostly because we are able to run a lower price, because we don't have to pay the Amazon commission and fees."
