Q: What is this charcoal made from?

Hi there, these binchotan charcoals are made out of ubame oak, a Japanese oak wood. Specifically, they are made in the Kishu region of Japan (Wakayama Prefecture), which has a long history of making the highest quality binchotan charcoals.

Q: How often do you have to boil them after use?

Hi Abigail,We recommend re-boiling the sticks every two to three weeks. Please let us know if you have any further questions!

Q: Did it come packaged in any plastic?

Hi there, We previously used a small amount of plastic but have since switched to a paper box. The only plastic used in the packaging is a small piece of tape that is applied to secure the box closure.

Q: How much do the 6 sticks weigh? Last I checked, a "stick" is not a unit of measurement...

I have mostly smaller containers for water (like water bottles, quart jars, etc. For me the small ones process more water. Also I'm wondering about packaging weight. Ihave a couple of the larger ones only 1.6 oz after the packaging is removed. I'm trying different ways to buy this product and so far I like 6 little ones better than the larger ones. Try both see what works for you
