Sweet and Enduring Classic
I grew up on this book and now get to read it to my grands. The detail in the drawings, and the sweet story of simpler times is just the kind of book I want them to love. Plus it's a great way to introduce "losing a tooth" to kids.

Such a classic book
This is such a classic American book. Love how sweet it is and the simple things like having a loose tooth and digging for clams. Classic I’m excited to read to my kids.

Charming story
I’ve had this author recommended to me several times, but nothing quite prepared me for the combined charm of the story and the illustrations. He portrays life through a kids eyes so well and there are so many little details in the illustrations that every time I read it to my daughter I notice something else. I’d recommend for 2.5 and up since they’re more wordy than regular baby books.

One Morning in Maine
Hardcover..used in "like-new" condition..one of my favorites when i was a very young child..still a favorite when my children were all younh..and now purchased this copy for my youngest grandchildren..the story and the illustratuons will delight any child or adult..these classics bring back a time when family and small communities were still intact..when penny candy really cost a penny..yet relevant for children in the day of high tech..great read-aloud book..

This is a family favorite, and we bought this copy for a birthday ...
This is a family favorite, and we bought this copy for a birthday gift for a five year old. Fan of Blueberries for Sal will delight in another Sal adventure (and she is accompanied by her younger sister Jane in this companion book). Sal wakes up and discovers she has her first loose tooth, and then loses it while digging for clams with her dad. The simple line drawings are lovely, and the language and imagery in this book are so rich. This book has such a rich depiction of life in coastal Maine that it always leaves me craving clam chowder! This is a classic and shouldn't be missed, but is especially perfect for children experiencing a first loose tooth or a family trip to Maine. I would recommend this for ages 4-7.

I remember this one.
63 years ago this was one of my most favorite books. I was thrilled to find it and will enjoy sharing with the young children I know.

A Timeless Story by a Terrific Author
Robert McCloskey did some great books -- writing and illustrating them. But "One Morning in Maine" is one of our family favorites. Based on a true time when McCloskey and his family lived on Scott Island, off the coast of Maine. Their family truly lived on an island, dug for clams, rode in a small boat to the mainland and back again, and lived through all the homey things this charming family in the book. The book is drawn in a "friendly" way, with no scary characters; only the assurance of loving parents and friendly neighbors who help in time of need. Its a timeless story that children need in this day of fear and uncertainty.
