Thank you for producing a most definitive and informative resource book on these beautiful dogs.As a previous owner of Golden Retrievers and now with a 7 month old bundle of energy, this book is the ideal handbook to the pre-purchasing, early life right through to their older years and care.If only everyone who aspires to own a GR puppy could read and understand the first few pages of the book to ensure they go to reputable breeders and the needs of their new pup; these are not dogs that you can think will be happy without the appropriate exercise and attention. In return for the right care they will provide years of love, affection, companionship and more than the occasional laugh!I particularly enjoy the comments from consulted breeders who have been very open and honest in their assessment of the needs for the dog and the right owners.Each section and chapter is set out clearly with some useful tips included. As mentioned previously, from pre-owning and those important considerations and choices you should make with the breeder (as much as they will make with you) all the way through to later life and potential ailments, this book provides such important information.As a current and previous GR owner is this book useful? The honest answer is a resounding ‘yes’ given the volume of information; much of the content is new to me and will be kept close to hand as a reference document. It is reassuring to read when you are unsure of a behaviour to see that this is a completely normal trait of a GR!My only ‘wish’ would be for all prospective owners to read the early chapters on what they should be expecting when looking for a puppy and their commitment, to make an informed and right choice.

I bought this after reading the other great reviews, and was not disappointed. Our puppy arrives in 2 weeks and I feel much better prepared having read just some of this book! We used the early chapters to make sure we were happy with the breeder and the pup we are purchasing. I'm now reading on to try and get some more knowledge on welcoming the pup home and getting started on training. I'm sure the book will be a valuable resource for years to come, as the chapters on health and Golden Oldies look great too. Having never owned a dog before, I feel much more confident about the new addition to our family since reading this book.

Having had goldies for some years now, I don’t really know how this book had previously escaped our notice. My friend had it out on her table when I went round to view her new puppy and, ironically, to give her a spot of advice. It turned out she already had all the pointers that she needed in this book. Moreover, I learned a few new things too. So it goes to prove that you can, in fact, teach an old dog new tricks! Recommended.

This book is a comprehensive and informative guide to living with this wonderful breed. It is well written and straightforward, covering all aspects, from finding a puppy through all stages of the dog's life, and including a very comprehensive health section. All prospective and current owners would benefit from having a copy of this book on their shelves. I have owned, trained and bred Golden Retrievers for many years, and there are always new tips and information to learn. I would highly recommend it.
