would this stapler work for stretching canvas over frame?

I would think this style would work better than any other for stretching canvas over a frame. I use it to stretch cloth over chair seats.

Would this staple gun have enough power to staple into a 2x4? For example, stapling some chicken wire onto a 2x4 frame.

You'd want a half inch staple or larger for that application. My guess is you'd want something with more power than this one. I'd get an industrial stapler for that application.

Does this come with staples & do you think it could punch through a deck post to run an extension cord?

Mine didn't come with any staples and it doesn't take a standard staple size so you will need to buy your own even though it says that it comes with 600 of these staples in the description.

I recently order and received one of these staplers. Ordered the right size staples and it doesn't work.

I just got mine and it won't send the staples out
