Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier Prelude
H**E
Welcome back, Captain America...
As "Captain America-2: Winter Soldier" hits the big screen, Marvel Comics has published a graphic novel recap for those who missed or have somehow forgotten "Captain America: The First Avenger" or the more recent "Avengers" movie. It also introduces some Marvel characters and relationships to the cinema audience for the first time. The first story is a concise graphic novel version of "Captain America: The First Avenger", which concludes with Steve Rogers awakening from his long Arctic sleep to find himself a SHIELD agent in the present. The second story takes place between "Avengers" and "Winter Soldier" as Captain America works with Black Widow and other SHIELD agents. The third item is a throw-back story matching Iron Man against the Black Widow (in her Russian days). The fourth story provides the origins of Captain America's ally the Falcon, on a remote island, pitted against the Exiles. The fifth story introduces Agent Sharon Carter and the Winter Soldier, in a nifty action piece that has Captain America pondering the death of his wartime sidekick Bucky. The last item sets the status of SHIELD just before Captain American was recovered from the Arctic. All of these stories have been published before, but it is a fun collection featuring a variety of artists and styles. It's a good way to get caught up for "Winter Soldier". By the look of the movie trailers, "Captain America: Winter Soldier" should be a real crowd pleaser. The movie and this collection are recommended.

This is a graphic novel (as distinguished from a graphic navel).

Very good
Though its not as long as the various prelude comics for The Avengers, this still gives a lot of useful background detail into the climatic second film on Captain America

A big disappointment compared to other MCU preludes
I’ve bought and enjoyed all the Marvel Cinematic Universe preludes up to this point. This is the first one to be such a disappointment. The book opens with a comic adaptation of the first Captain America film. The other preludes also recapped a prior film, so this didn’t surprise me. It was a solid, succinct summary. After that, readers get the “Winter Soldier” prelude part – which amounted to nothing more than Cap, Rumlow and Romanov taking down some terrorists in an empty office building. It wasn’t even ten pages long and had no impact on the film’s story other than having 3 characters in common. Why not a mission from the Winter Soldier’s POV? The rest of the book is filler of old material. Two golden age stories of Hawkeye and Falcon’s first appearance, and two stories that are really teasers for upcoming collections as they actually say “continued in….”Overall, this just wasn’t worth the purchase. Marvel can and should do better than this.

Expecting more
I thought I was getting a prelude to the actual movie. This was more like an intro, but not, to the Winter Soldier character. Not completely disappointed, but not thrilled either

NOT a Winter Soldier Prelude.l..
Was actually VERY disappointed in this "prelude" comic! It is NOTHING like the rest of the prelude series. It doesn't even really have anything to do with the new movie! It is just a REPRINT of the prelude comic for The First Avenger. This should NOT be labelled as a Winter Soldier Prelude....it should be a First Avenger Epilogue!

Just watch the movie again.
GOD THIS WAS SO BAD. I'll break it down for you; its basically the entire movie summed up in like 10 pages. Im not kidding. If you've seen the first movie, you'll understand it but you'll be like "wtf ok this is literally the movie. On a piece of paper. why did i pay for this" and if you havent seen it you'll be like "what the everloving helI is going on. What am i doing with my life. Why am i here. did someone actually put effort into this. What in the blue blazes. " im not kidding. Please dont read th other positive reviews. I really wish i didnt buy this. I will pay you to take it away from me i need to bleach my eyes after seeing how much i spent on this garbage they try to tell you is a comic book. Love yourself

It's really an interesting read
I had only started watching movies about the Avengers last year, and now I'm a huge Marvel fan. I wanted to read a comic (as I had never done this before) and bought this book as Cap is my favourite superhero and I love Bucky. The first few pages are just a summary of the frist Cap movie, but I found other stories inside the book far more interesting. In fact, I'll be getting more comic books because I really enjoyed this one.I'd say, if you're into comics and you know your stuff, I don't think this book is for you. But if, like me, you're only starting to get hooked about these things, you will really enjoy it.

Meh
Not quite what I expected as a Prelude. If I had wanted a comic on Captain America: The First Avenger then I could easily have purchased that. The stories do not sync with one another and I really wish I had read the reviews a little more in depth before purchasing
