My son is autistic, non-verval, and elopes from safe spaces. I have spent years not being able to travel with him because he's outgrown baby locks that might be handy and not damaging for use in a hotel but I can't go to sleep because he's likely to just leave by himself while I'm sleeping. Special needs parents know that that's the nightmare that really keeps us up at night. Suddenly I had an idea that maybe I can use this lock on a hotel door as instructed but add a small zip tie between the smallest hole in the silver plate and the handle of the red wedge. This weekend we went on a family trip and stayed in a hotel. I brought a little kit with this lock, a few small zip ties, and scissors to snip the zip tie to remove. It worked like a charm. I set it up the way I described and tried my best to open the door from the inside like he might. I couldn't do it. I actually slept and my son slept and had a great time. Seeing him be safe and still included in what everyone else is doing made me want to cry. It just really meant a lot to me. If you have eloper in your life, you should have one of these around for travel/and or emergencies like staying with a relative unexpectedly during a home emergency. It's a pretty affordable peace of mind.

I’ve only tried it on one door so far, the fit is not really a problem with the door closing part at least. Place your metal plate with the correct size aligning with hole in the door frame and then shut the door and place the lock in. Make sure to move the keychain ring so it doesn’t get in your way. I saw a couple reviews where the plate wouldn’t go in when placed on the door, this process is easier and it helps.I tried opening the door after locking and it’s safe to say that it’s pretty safe, easy to use, the design is compact and the quality was good.

This product is great - IF you get to use it. I cannot give this product more than 3 stars because even if I have been able to use it, and it works like a charm... That's only the case if it works - as in if the door's metal bar can fit inside the only two preset holes on this product.I personally stay at 4-star or 5-star hotels most of the time.. and I can guarantee that 95% of the time, this product does not fit on their doors because they have complex ones that increase the safety of their clients. Even so, it would be nice to have something like this to be on the safer end, but I find myself carrying this with me when I travel, only to find out it's practically useless for this trip.They can certainly improve on this product. The concept is there, but I just wish there was a way it can fit any type of door.
