That Girl

ESSENTIAL for the Jennifer Nettles fan
Bought this after watching the 30 minute show about the making of it.After seeing her during the creative process, including breaking down during "This Angel" (The song about her son Magnus, who was in the control room with her husband) it increased the "personal" look into her life and also made the songs feel more personal to me, almost like I was there.I RARELY buy complete albums, since NORMALLY there are 1 or 2, or SOMETIMES 3, decent songs and the rest are just "filler"... NOT WITH THIS ONE!!!!Having listened to the entire album, nearly exclusively, for the last few weeks, there's not a single song I'd come close to considering as "filler"If you're looking for the latest from "Sugarland", this ain't for you. It's a much more intimate look into Jennifer's life and WELL worth the cost

Get That Girl
I don't listen to country music, and so this was a total gamble -- buying Jennifer Nettles new CD. The only time I've seen her perform is on a few Christmas specials and so have been interested in her but pretty unaware. So when I saw that she had a new CD, I took a chance on it and I really like it! The tunes were catchy, the lyrics were well written, and that voice -- she's got a great one. I especially enjoyed the title song, That Girl. Surprise lyrics there -- a very nice twist connecting it with an old hit song. Upbeat, funny, or tender and poignant, it was a very nice mix of songs. Very entertaining. I recommend it.

Different and Beautiful
I'm not sure why there were so many negative reviews for this CD...I absolutely loved it.( I guess it's because so many people are resistant to change.) Yes, this is different from the typical Sugarland songs, but the songs on this album are beautiful and thought-provoking. This CD had me hooked from the very first songs. I commend her for venturing out despite the naysayers and old sticks in the mud who only want the same thing all the time.

Solid solo album
Jennifer Nettles was an extraordinarily powerful singer with Sugarland. This solo album wishes further to showcase her talents and perhaps to introduce them to a wider audience. To that end, it seems to me that the production of the album tends to smooth out any rough edges in her performance, presenting her more nearly as a "pop" performer. That works well enough--she's very good--but I think it takes some of her raw power away, at least on some of the songs. But note the single, sly reference to a Dolly Parton song on Nettles' "That Girl."

Sounds good
I like all of her music. But it’s a pain to get music that I purchase to down load to my iTunes.

A Sarah Vaughn for the 21st century
I am so happy to see this magnificent vocalist and stylist shed herself of the twenty-something, low self esteem Sugarland audience - sleeping with the boss and crying themselves to sleep - and become an authentic middle aged woman. Though she and Mr Bush raised many standards in country pop, their overall act, like Taylor Swift's, was just embarrassing. Welcome to a world of mature emotions and intelligent insight, Ms Nettles, we've been waiting with great anticipation. Without shedding your lovely southern accent, you have truly shed the cliches of AM radio country pop.

The first time through hooked me!
Most collections a couple of songs grab me and the rest have to grow on me. The first time through had me hooked. The combination of Jennifer Nettles' unique voice and thoughtful lyrics that made me think about what she was singing made this a collection of songs that I'm going to get a lot of enjoyment out of. This feels like a singer/songwriter collection and not a singer who had songs written for them. I would equate this effort to Rob Thomas' solo debut away from Matchbox Twenty.
