Awesome scent.
Probably the best soap I've ever used. Pricey, but worthy.

An Step Up From Other Soaps!
This is really excellent soap! There is very little comparison between this soap and most of the other handmade soap options out there. Even though there are a number of "hand made" soaps on the market and many of them are excellent, this soap is still one of the best I've ever used. Not only do the natural benefits of a pine tar soap shine through, but the added benefits of the exfoliating sand and the other natural ingredients make it a bit of a game changer. (Which is an interesting term to be applied to a product that is based on a good, old-fashioned, natural recipe and not some funky new chemical additive.) I find it interesting that some reviewers mention the scent... While there is a mild pine scent (which is both pleasant and TERRIBLY manly in my opinion), the scent is not overpowering in any way. I honestly don't understand any of the comments on it being a "strong" scent. Any scented soap out there has more of a lingering scent to it than this... even "unscented" ones often have more of a fragrance than this particular soap. As far as the cleaning and exfoliating properties, they do the job very well... as they should. The pine tar and other ingredients leave my skin feeling fresh and clean without any drying (a big thing when you live in a dry climate like Denver!), and the sand that is impregnated into the bar is just enough to give the soap some "grit" without seeming like it is sandpaper. If you are buying this soap to help with skin conditions, I can only speak from second-hand experience. My wife and daughter have issues with psoriasis and other than a very expensive mud that you can get from the dead sea, a good pine tar soap (like this one) is far and away the best treatment either of them has ever used... and considering the low cost and easy delivery through Amazon, it is not even a contest as to what they prefer to use on a daily basis. (BTW... if you need a good pine tar shampoo, try Heritage Store Hair Shampoo, Pine Tar, 12 Ounce , it is to shampoos what this soap is to medicated hand soap. And last but not least, even though it doesn't have any effect on the quality of the soap... the company is great! They have a cute little email blurb that they send you from Amazon after you have ordered that tells the story of how Sasquatches (Sasquatch-ie?) slave-away lovingly to make the soap for you... it is a minor marketing thing, but I found it surprisingly endearing that the company wants to give you a great product as well as a chuckle or two... Kudos!

Quality soap, unexpected (but pleasant) smell
I've had this soap for 1 week now and do think it is great and you do get what you pay for in a more expensive soap. Not really a pro/con but an observation. The smell the bar has doesn't linger that long after the shower. However, I kept getting wafts of a smell while at work this week and it took me a few days to place it. It smells like dried hay that got a little wet. It is not unpleasant, as that is a sweet musky smell. If you work around animals, you know that smell and it isn't bad. Just know you probably won't smell like pine but more like hay. Maybe that is your thing and in that case, it is great! Pros: good lather, not drying, and feels great! Cons: As most have already put, it dissolves quick despite all efforts. I cut it in half with dental floss and used a woven soap bag so it would hang and dry between showers too. I'm through the first half in just under a week. So, yeah, they don't last too long and if you are OK with going through $20-30 in bar soap in a month then go for it. It is a quality natural product so this is to be expected to a degree but oof, that's fast. I'm going to finish off this bar then go through the Bay Rum one I got as well. Going to try Duke Cannon next to see where I land.

Natural, gritty and invigorating soap!
Dr. Squatch Pine Tar soap has become a staple in my daily routine. I love how the heavy grit exfoliates my skin after a long day of work, leaving me feeling clean and refreshed. The natural ingredients and pine tar scent are earthy and invigorating without being overpowering. In real-life use, the bar lathers well and lasts longer than typical soaps. It rinses off easily and doesn't leave residue, and my skin feels noticeably smoother. If you're looking for a rugged, all-natural soap that actually works and smells great, this is it.

Get your first aide kit ready!
It’s been almost two weeks now and my wounds have finally healed. Two weeks also marks my first shower using this product where I learned the pumice inside was no joke. The scent of natural pine paired with the black color was leaving me with a very masculine vibe. Imitating the IG ad I watched days prior, I began scrubbing my beard, face and head. So far so good... I moved to the arms and the chunks of what I have concluded as “wood” began to get a little aggressive. The closest comparison I could think of is my military days of using Lava soap or GoJo. Giving the soap a full send, meaning that I was going to give it head to toe try, I continued to my legs. Lightening up on the pressure to the point where the soap was barely in my grasp, I toughed through the pain and finished up. It wasn’t until I began toweling off and glancing in the mirror that I noticed the red scratched all over my back, shoulders, face, and thighs. My next thought was someone could get accused of cheating using this soap, dangerous. Finishing my thought, I noticed blood on my towel. Investigating further, the source was a inch long gash along my outer shin/calf. It kind of resembled a deep briar scratch or if a large doggo had pawed down the side of my leg. Hesitant with my next shower, I had to use my fingernail to remove some of the more aggressive chunks of wood from the bar before use. Occasionally, I still feel a new one surface and have to decide if it’s going to be another skin ripper. Overall, I’m indifferent with this soap. The scent is great, color is awesome, texture... well I’ve said enough about that, and the lifespan is relatively short. I most likely won’t be purchasing another bar due the pumice. Though it feels good on your shoulders and back, the risk of being cut is too great if you’re not careful. I’m curious if the rest of their products are as aggressive? I’m a tough dude, but I shouldn’t have to prove it in the shower... unless it’s prison.

Give Squatch a chance!
Ok, I got my first set of Dr. Squatch soap as a christmas gift. After first use, I was sold. When I was just taking a whiff at bars around the store, I didn't think pine tar smelled all that great and gave it a hard pass, but after getting one in a bundle, I gave it a try. Pine Tar is one of my favorite scents now. The smell is both manly and elegant at the same time. I promise, you won't smell like you've been hugging a pine tree all day. Give it a try, you'll love it.
