Works great! Or not. - update: still working!
I have eight (yes, I am a sucker for unwanted pets) dogs. I did not do the "training" as explained in the packaging. They suggested placing your pet on the mat, letting the alarm go off, and shooing them off with a firm "no." I believe that THE DOGS should get THEMSELVES into the situation, not be forced into it and then punished for it. So, I waited with water pistol in hand for them to jump up on their own. First to try was the "devil dog." My smartest and most devious dog. He thought the noise was cool and a great new toy. I sprayed him with water, said "no" and he left it alone. A day later he tried again, and I chased him off. He has not tried a third time. But, it is still early. I suspect this mat will not be an effective deterent for him.On the other end of the spectrum, my Aussie jumped on it, the alarm went off, and she not only immediately jumped off without being told, she was so spooked she ran out the doggie door and into the back yard. Didn't want to come back in the room. Three others jumped on the mat and quickly got off on their own. The fourth hasn't even tried it yet. I think she witnessed the other dogs and the noise and is too scared to go near the couch. (The littlest dog can't jump up that far, so he is exempt.)The verdict? So far, after four days, it works like a charm with all but one of my dogs. Will it work with yours? Chances are good, but if you have a "devil dog" like I do, it may not be effective.UPDATE: I have had this for about a year now. After the first few days the puppies all learned to stay off the couch. Now, even if I take the mate off, they don't try to sneak back on it. Works like a charm!

lasted 2 minutes
It's narrow; the length is okay but it's narrow so you really would need two to cover the width of a couch. Furthermore, the sensor is not that sensitive so you have to push it firmly in just the right spot to get a noise. My dog goes on the couch when I leave the house, so we tried this out the first day by leaving the house for 20 minutes to get frozen yogurt. When we came back, the dog had decided to destroy the item making a noise, and had chewed the plastic electronic bit to shreds and even chewed into the battery. You may say "well this is just a reflection of your poorly trained dog" and you may be right to an extent, but the purpose of the item was to help train the dog, only the noise is ineffective and the low quality plastic of this product allowed the dog too-easy access to the 9v battery i'm glad his mouth didn't get severely hurt by battery acid.

This WORKS!
Wow, this thing WORKS! I didn’t have high hopes. We had a problem with the dog getting on the couch. We only had to show him this thing & sound it the alarm once & he won’t go near the couch now with this on it! Wish I would have found this sooner. Only thing I found is the “ON” button is actually off & the “OFF” button is on.. not a big deal though, manufacturing error. But still works great.

It does not last long
I ordered this on January 6 2023. Does it work well for the dogs? Yes. I have a 13 month old German Shephard and 5 year old yellow lab that are used to being able to get on our couch. After certain unfortunate events, I needed something to keep them off. I found this and ordered it. It takes a 9V battery that isn't included. I bought an energizer Max and it was working fantastic until about 3 weeks ago. When I'm home its off since I can watch them. I work from home and here every day unless I go sit with my in laws when needed. With that in mind, I only turn this on at night to ensure my dogs will not get on the couch. From January until 3 weeks ago today (3/23/2023) it quit working. I tried replacing the battery and it did nothing. Even with a new battery, we crunched it up and nothing came out of it. I ordered two other ones from a different company so i am curious to see how long those last compared to this. I will say, my dogs tried one time to get on the couch with this and they haven't since. Even when they would try to go and bark at anything in the front yard from the couch. They refuse to go near it now lol. I would give it a 5 but with it not lasting i had to compromise.

Keeps my horribly spoiled rotten dogs off the couch!
I have a male beagle and female foxhound that think they are people and deserve to be on the couch. Well, not anymore thanks to these mats! My family keeps an eye on the dogs while we're home and verbally discipline them when they jump on the couch. Unfortunately they think it's romper room when we leave the house and trample all over the couch (on top, on the arms, etc) and use the the couch as their personally command station to look out the window. Yeah, it's a problem. ANYWAY, these mats work well because they jump up and get annoyed/scared and jump down right away. As soon as we put these mats up they tried it once each and after a week no dog attempts to jump up anymore. One caveat is that the mats are not wide enough, hence the 4 stars. If the mats were 3 inches wider they would fit most modern couches much better. Also, if your dogs jump on the back of the couch consider purchasing 2 mats so you can put one up top too. My fox hound learned that she could jump over the main cushions and still sleep on the top headrest part of the couch (arrrrrrhhhh!!!!). So I put two mats on the couch, one on the main cushions, and one across the top - that did the trick!

Does the trick!!
I purchased a very large couch and needed to train my senior couch dogs after 12 years of the bad habit!! I started with two since they are pricey and reviews aren't great. To my surprise, they are fantastic. They are small, though. I will order another 4 and hopefully that's enough. Way better than putting dining chairs on the couch every night!
