Good guide for an amatuer.
Good guide for an amatuer. That's me and inspite of lots of experience with home maintenance and building stuff I really needed something like this to guide me in plans to build my next home. I especially like how the format of the book makes it easy to refer back to specific areas of interest.

Your Bible to ask ?’s & take notes
Ordered this for my brother in law who is building a new home with no experience. He’s hiring a builder etc and has been using this book as his Bible to take notes and ask more knowledgeable questions to the builder, architect, getting his construction loan etc. Highly recommend especially for someone who needs guidance in this area.

Worth reading
Reading this book could make you believe you can handle a large construction project yourself, if you have a substantial ego. If you live in an area of the country where building codes are not that tough, this book probably is a decent blueprint. Personally, I looked at this book as a way to educate myself prior to a large construction project for which I hired a general contractor. With very tough building codes and countless permits needed, where I live the deck is stacked against a homeowner acting as a general contractor, so reading this book gave me some tools to use, specifically, knowledge about what to expect, questions to ask, and tips on staying on schedule. It's readable and informative.

Building a House Yourself? You need this book.
I used this book 21 years ago as we built our first home. I purchased the updated version as we are about to begin building our next home, and know that it will help to make the building process go smoothly.
