3 Little Firefighters (MathStart 1)

We try to use MathStart books with our preschoolers as much as we can. In this one, the kids sort through size (big, medium, small), shapes (circle, triangle, square) and then color (grey, black, yellow). One day we read this and do sensory bins with a shape bin, and a button bin. One day we glue buttons to a firetruck, or the dots of a dalmatian. We read it each day again until we move on to the next MathStart book. Great for PreK. I think it would be too simplistic for a kinder-gardener however.

I purchased this book to read to my Preschool class. I am AGHAST that the math is incorrect. The 3 firefighters are looking for sets of buttons for their coats and the book says " But we've got to have four sets". No. You only need three sets. I hope parents who read this story to their kids catch this mistake. I am disappointed in my purchase. Obviously, I can correct the error when reading it to the children, but I'm sure other parents/teachers are not catching this error and that is what is truly disheartening.

Great book for sorting and classifying

Cute book! Used it in my first grade class for patterns.

My grandson is in love with fire fighters...I got this for his birthday and he loves it. I love that it has a parents section with ideas on different teaching tools through out the book. Great investment.

We have most of the MathStart books. They are simply fantastic! Mr. Murphy has a knack for simplifying the concept for little kids and the illustrations are very striking. We read a new one every week and read it once a day (an idea borrowed from a friend).The books also have some activities that go with the concept.
