I use the improved Bristol knot with success and is my preferred go to mono/braid joining knot however a lot depends on what line you are fishing I.e while knot strength is important many anglers select lines heavier then the fish they target, while it’s the exception we have landed fish in the 40 pound range on 10 lb. braid to 30 lb. leader. Experiment and use the knot(s) that works for you as you should have several or more knots in your arsenal of skills to allow adaptations to line characteristic’s as well as ease of passing rod guides and not hanging up on rod tip on retrieval

You can answer your own question on how many yards your reel will handle. I do not know how much your reel will handle. Find out the diameter of the suffix line and check you reel to see what the capacity you can put on it. Check the internet to see spool sizes, and to see what sizes of line they make

The diameter of a 20 lb. line is .009", the equivalent of 6 lb. mono.

Q: Can this line be used on both bait casting and spinning reels?

Absolutely. It is especially good on spinning reels. My wife constantly complained about her spinning reel line snarling up. I installed suffix 832 and the complaints have almost disappeared. The reel twisting continues somewhat, of course on spinning reels, but the tendency to snarl the line off the front of the reel is minimized.
