Prevents AAD
When I needed to take a 7-day course of Amox-Clav 875-125mg (a super high-dose antibiotic), my doctor and pharmacist recommended that I take some sort of probiotic to preserve the healthy bacteria in my gut which would otherwise be eliminated by the medication. The doctor was not specific about what to take, the pharmacist simply recommended yogurt. After some online research in which I found an academic study evaluating probiotic supplements in which the Bio-K+ supplement was highly rated for addressing antibiotic associated diarrhea (AAD). My personal experience confirms the study. I was 2 days into the 7-days of antibiotics before I took the first dose of Bio-K+. I experienced only one instance of very mild diarrhea and have been otherwise diarrhea free. After reading media reports summarizing other research indicating that probiotic supplements can actually be harmful in some instances, I opted to continue the supplements for just a couple of days after I completed the course of antibiotics. Label says, under refrigeration, the Bio-K+ will keep its potency for at least a year, I believe, so I'll have them on hand if I need them again.

Great Update Received from company on “There is no enteric coating as pictured; clear capsules”
7/22/22 Update from company:They emailed me and explained that the delayed release capsules’ content uses different technology so the good bacteria reach the colon. Their response to my original review immediately follows, along with my original review (far below):“ We appreciate that you took the time to contact us for additional information. It is important for us to answer properly your questions and we are pleased to provide you with more information regarding the concerns you raised. To answer your excellent question, both technologies delay the release of probiotic bacteria until they reach the intestines to prevent stomach acid from killing them. The enteric-coated capsules require refrigeration, whereas the delayed-release technology bottled capsules do not. They are both as effective. In both cases, the probiotic bacteria are released from the capsule in the intestines, thus conferring their benefits. The main difference is the active ingredient that makes up these two technologies. DR-caps technology (used in the Daily Care capsules) uses a plant-based polymer to protect the probiotic bacteria, whereas the enteric coating (used in the refrigerated capsules) uses several ingredients, the main one being sodium alginate (seaweed extract), an algae-based polysaccharide. We hope this information was helpful !Thank you for choosing Bio K+![Signed by a real person with a name.]”——————This is a clear capsule with granules in it. The item is not as pictured and described. This makes me question whether it's delayed release at all, because the illustrations by the seller do not match the product. The seller claims that the whole point of the enteric coating is to ensure good bacteria survive the stomach and reach the colon. I see no enteric coating. It looks just like the clear, gel capsules I can buy myself. It's possible that this is a different formulation that requires no enteric coating, but then the manufacturer should be responsible enough and care enough about customers' health to point that out. I researched heavily before buying and am disappointed.

Refrigeration IS REQUIRED
I had read several reviews about this product about the conflicting information regarding the refrigeration. Based on the responses from seller/manufacturer to some of those reviews, I was under the impression that the capsules are some delayed release technology and do not require refrigeration. I thought all the other comments were irrelevant and about some different product.Received the product today, first of all it is not by any means a delayed release capsule. It looks completely different from the picture. Secondly, the box of this particular product clearly says viable until expiration date if refrigerated. If the manufacturer hasn’t updated their labeling storage info, then I don’t how much to trust their product anyways.Or perhaps the seller is providing wrong info in response to the inquiries.I remember reading someone’s review that they contacted the manufacturer directly… I am not sure if this product is even the delayed release or not.I am a pharmacist, and I know several probiotics like Florajen, VSL, have to be refrigerated. Plus its not just the matter of lack of efficacy, but something that’s not viable could actually be harmful!Manufacturer’s website doesn’t even work. I had heard great things about this product, but it all seems pretty sketchy now. I will have to do a lot more research. On top of everything, this item is not returnable. Luckily Amazon was nice enough to refund me. Amazon should definitely look into this because its a health risk.
