Hi, does this model of esp32 work for projects with wled?

Yes. I've used it with WLED, FASTLED, LEDFX

What is the pin header distance? 25.4 mm or 25.2 mm

2.54 mm or 0.1 inch between the pin

I see a 5v pin in the pic, can this be powered from battery only and what voltage range? i also see an ams1117 in the pic which has specs for 4.3v-15v

You can either power it from a micro USB, or through the 5v. I power mine through the 5v pin with a 5v power supply, and prefer to just use the micro USB for flashing.

I have a esp32-wroom-32u and i'm trying to program it in arduino ide. which board type should i be using? are the pin defines in that board correct?

i think you need to choose "ESP32 Dev Module" under "ESP32 Arduino". if it doesn't come up when you select "Tools"--> "Board", then go into "Tools"-->"Board"-->"Boards Manager..." and search for ESP32 in the search box, then Install
