The Little Island

Farmyard friends and neighbours
Written by Smriti Prasadam-Halls, and illustrated by Robert Starling, this charming book tells the story of a group of farmyard animals who decide to live apart from their neighbours, and what happens to them. Sounds familiar?Every page is packed with drawings of the animals, including geese, pigs, ducks, cows and many others. Every one of the animals is a real personality, and the more closely we looked at the details in the pictures, the more we saw and the more they seemed to come to life. This storybook is great fun and also has a message about how we should all learn to help one another. Children and parents will want to visit “The Little Island” again and again.

Excellent - a book for our times.
A delightful book which poignantly makes a case for 'sticking together' and building a society where all contribute and reap the benefit. In these politically polarised times, the message of the story is clear and deep and, hopefully, we all are inspired to reflect on what communities should be built on and stand for. Thinking 'we' are better than 'them' is inevitably destined to misery and failure. Buy it for yourself and/or for your young children to open powerful conversations.

Beautiful story, which can be enjoyed on many levels
A beautifully written book with an important message of peace and friendship. It is also a great starting point for conversations with children about current political events which may be worrying them. Both my 5yo and 7yo enjoyed it. I will be recommending to my friends.

Good moral
Beautiful little book with the moral that we are better living and working as a team rather than dividing into tribes and arguing & fighting with other tribes. Sound familiar?

A charming book with a message to all ages
A delightful book explaining the folly of cutting yourself off from your nearest allies ,friends and neighbours . Beautifully illustrated, my grandchildren loved it . Indeed it does help to explain why Granny is so cross about Brexit !!

Really good book for our times...
Bought this as a Christmas present. It’s hilariously funny... if only it weren’t so tragic. I think it will take a LOOOONG time for us humans to get the same ever after.

It s about the value of cooperation in this increasingly divided world
It 's a beautifully written fable about how we are all stronger together than divided against each other . It s been called a book about Brexit but it is so much wider than that . A really useful approach to this baffling world for younger children

We love farm animals!
Brilliant book which beautifully illustrates the importance of building bridges and working together. As my daughter said : the birds were so sad when they were all alone. We've added this book to our bedtime favourite reads.
