MSR Expedition Field Service Kit for Liquid Fuel Stoves

This is the comprehensive repair kit for your MSR Dragonfly stove and its fuel pump. You will find every o-ring and seal you can need for both pump and stove, even the sealing collar that fits the pump to the repair body. It even has two replacement jets for your stove (one for white gas, and similar, and one for heavier fuels). Included also are tools to disassemble your stove and pump, and even a spare flame spreader. All this comes in a small plastic box that clips shut and keeps things organized. I always try to pack as minimalist as I can but this is something I always include. MSR makes great gear and I've had both the Whisperlite and Dragonfly stoves and they've been very reliable. Still, a failed o-ring or other problem with your stove or pump out in the wild can be a real bummer. This repair kit keeps you covered. It's about the size of a small eyeglass case and weighs a few ounces. I'd say keep this with your Dragonfly stove at all times except for the shortest of backpacking trips where a faulty stove wouldn't totally ruin things. It also comes with a full set of instructions with exploded views of both stove and pump, as well as an o-ring sizing chart. Instructions are in English, Japanese, French, and German. I'd always like it if MSR products came cheaper, and this kit is another example. It's pro-grade stuff, however, like most things they make. This kit is no exception and I recommend it. The kit will also seem like a steal if you ever need it dozens of miles from nowhere, when you're cold, tired, and hungry and when that little o-ring on the fuel inlet decides to snap.

Perfect, all the gaskets I need. However, I have an older stove without the shaker-jet jet. Allthese new shaker-jets are of a different size thread and are incompatible with my MSR Whisperlite.

I ordered this kit to perform maintenance on an older MSR fuel pump and stove. I had zero problems with the components and everything worked perfectly after maintenance. Had I realized how easy the work was, I would have done this maintenance earlier!

This kit is very complete, which is why it is expensive as compared to buying a completely new stove. My Whisper Lite International is at least 20 years old. The plastic ears that hold the old fuel pump onto the pump body broke off from age. Parts are no longer available for that pump design, plus, you cannot purchase individual parts. No choice but to buy a complete new pump unit. In the interest of keeping the stove going for another 20 years, this kit was purchased that provides ample parts to repair the stove itself or the new fuel pump while repair parts are available. Now, a breakdown while on a trip will be a non-event and the stove should out last me! The annual overhaul kit is cheaper, but did not have all the parts I needed as I could not find any place to buy individual parts.

I bought MSR's Dragonfly stove over 15 years ago because it was held out as a bomb-proof, multi-fuel stove that would last a lifetime if properly maintained. In my experience, those claims are true. But what about maintenance? Enter the Expedition Service Kit. MSR sells two maintenance kits for the Dragonfly: an Annual Service Kit and the expedition service kit. I purchased the Expedition Service Kit because it is a complete kits for every user-serviceable part on the Dragonfly and the newer-style pump. It contains replacements for every O-ring, a new pump seal cap, replacement burner spreader, shaker needle, two replacement fuel jets, new fuel lines, check valves, and much more. In addition to the Kit itself, a comprehensive set of instructions are included with specific diagrams and trouble-shooting tips. Finally, everything comes packaged in a lightweight, yet sturdy, plastic container. If you have invested in a MSR Dragonfly stove, spend a few extra dollars for the Expedition Service Kit. It's well-worth the marginal cost to know you can completely refurbish your stove and pump in the field if needed.

Zur umfangreichen Wartung und für Reparaturen des Whisperlite und der Pumpe, und für ein gutes Gefühl, wenn man unterwegs ist. Normalerweise reicht es nämlich den Kocher zum Reinigen während der Tour nur zu schütteln. Im Gegensatz zum oft nur unwesentlich günstigeren und sehr knapp ausgestatteten MSR Annual Maintenance Kit - Jahreswartungskit enthält das Expedition Service Kit Set neben dem notwendigen Werkzeug, Dichtungen, Düsenreiniger und Pumpenöl auch spezifische Ersatzteile für den Whisperlite wie Ersatzdüsen, Pumpenteile, Vorheizdocht und Filter. Nutzt man den Kocher oft und ist auf ihn angewiesen und vor allem, wenn man nicht nur Gas oder Reinbenzin zur Verfügung hat und deswegen den Kocher öfters reinigen und auch warten muss, empfiehlt sich auf jeden Fall das Expedition Service Kit. Das Set enthält Düsen und Pumpenventil der aktuellen und der Vorgängermodelle - die nicht erforderlichen Teile kann man zur Gewichtsersparnis herausnehmen. So brauche ich für meinen Universal nur die UC (Gas), UG (Benzin) und UK (Petroleum) Düse. Die G Düse ist dann für den Ur-Whisperlite. Die Gewinde der Ersatzdüsem in Set habe ich gleich mit Kupferpaste (Auspuffett) eingeschmiert und in einer eigenen Tüte gelagert - so fressen sich die Düsen später nicht fest. Wenn man das vergessen hat, hilft aber auch ein Tropfen des beigefügten Pumpenöls um nach kurzer Einwirkzeit die Düse zu lösen. Bild: Whisperlite Universal und Dragonfly
