Thread Stories: A Visual Guide to Creating Stunning Stitched Portrait Quilts Paperback – October 7, 2015

I'm the librarian of a large quilt guild and I ordered the book at a member's suggestion. Of course I had to look it over before I let anyone else check it out. Although I could only skim the book, I want to order it for myself (or at least check it out next). The technique seems to be easy enough -- one of the pictures in the gallery is by a student who finished it in class. I believe most of the emphasis is on portraits of either people or pets so if the reader is looking to do still life, landscapes, etc., he or she won't see examples but the technique would apply. The author achieves tremendous expressiveness in her portraits and has some tips about doing "eye." I myself am very interested in taking up this sort of quilting and this book offers a technique that offers mediocre drawers a good chance of succeeding.

Do you have a favorite photo that you'd love to turn into a stunning quilt? This is the book for you. Jennifer Day gives careful instructions that will guide you through all the steps. I particularly valued her descriptions on how to choose thread colors, how different stitching patterns create differing results, and how the density of stitching creates various effects. The examples of her art are stunning! I especially love the portraits of her pets - adorable.

Wow, this is a visually stunning book with step-by-step guides on how to create your own stitched portrait masterpiece quilt. I can't wait to start my own project! I'm sure it will take time to master the techniques, but I feel confident I can start small and make something wonderful.

Good detail that I haven't found available any where else. Especially appreciated the material dealing with hair, eyes & skin of different ages. Good show Jennifer! Ordered this book after reviewing her website. If you can attend one her classes this is the next best.
