Not so antimicrobial afterall (Updated 07/11/2017)
Update:I gave up. It was too much of an effort to keep these mats free from mold in all the nooks and crannies that it has. I was spraying it with the Clorox spray cleaner (with bleach) and hanging to dry every night, too. I had to throw them away. I just don't want my dishes to be touching the mold.Previous review (was 3 stars)We've been using the drying mats (we have 2) for 8 months now and I can tell you I am not impressed with the antimicrobial claim. I have plenty of antimicrobial items purchased within the past 3 years and they have been doing a good job standing up to that claim, especially our shower squeegee that is now over 3 years old. We are all too familiar with the previous shower squeegees getting mold on them which would have to constantly be treated for (almost daily) or it would spread the mold in the shower simply by being hung up to dry. The antimicrobial squeegee is now 3 years old and is untreated for mold to this day! With these mats, there are plenty of corners made with the horizontal surface. Your dishes sit on raised areas so that the water drains down to the horizontal surface. Where the raised area has a vertical side to meet the horizontal surface, pink mold collects in there. How do I know it's pink since my mats are black? I run a paper towel into that corner along all those corners and, unfortunately, it all comes out pink. That's what happened when I first found the pink mold.I did everything necessary to get rid of it, but it is never really gone. This maintenance I'm about to describe reminds me of the maintenance we had to do with our regular squeegee (not the antimicrobial one): Of course, I had to use bleach and I wasn't happy about that. I then ran it through the dishwasher to wash off as much bleach as possible. Now I am in constant maintenance mode spraying it with a Clorox cleaner that has bleach it in about two times a week. I take a soft bristle brush, too, and using dish washing liquid, I wash both mats at least once a week. I don't recall these mats having a maintenance instruction that required this much work.To add insult to injury, water gets underneath both mats. It's been doing this since day one. There are no cracks in the material nor has my cleaning regimen had anything to do with the water underneath. It gets slimy under there when wet and when dry, it is light brown (as seen on the counter) for some reason, but still moist. I hate to know what that is.Being that the mats are black, I realize I am never going to see the nasty growth on unless I am constantly swabbing them and that is just way too much work. I'm probably just going to toss them and go back to the way we used to manage drying the dishes which in ways is sub-par to this, but it doesn't cause the dangerous pink mold to be that close to our dishes. I really wished this was going to work.

Customer for life!
I love Mat! The cute emails were a nice touch too, made me laugh. I am about to buy my 3rd. Not to replace mine though. I still have my original, 2nd was for a gift (they loved it also) & 3rd will be for me. We use it to set wet or hot things on. To put meat on for seasoning before the BBQ, especially helpful when making ribs! I keep it on the stove when it's not in use, looks nice and gives me another flat surface to use. I have cut into mine on accident, probably not a good thing but it was definitely my fault. I will say that I use a micro fiber drying mat underneath when I'm using it for dishes. That's my own OCD tho, definitely don't NEED it, but I can't stand the thought of water between it and my granite from me dripping everywhere.

EXCELLENT product! I've bought two of them and plan on getting a third. I have quartz kitchen countertops and I want to keep them safe. The Tortuga silicon mat does this. It withstands heat up to 450 degrees and keeps things that may bump, scratch or otherwise damage my counters away from the surface. The large size is perfect for cookie sheets and large cooking pots. I use the mats daily. I highly recommend the mats. I must add that the customer service is also EXCELLENT. Besides being notified by Amazon, the company also keeps me in the loop about my order and delivery. They even follow up to make sure that I am satisfied with their product. Kudos to this business!!!Plenty of space on the mat for a 13X9 baking dish hot out of the oven!

Nice looking mat for kitchen countertop.
I do not yet know if it is heat resistant, easy to clean, or durable, since I just received it. The manufacturer says it is all of those things. But it does look very nice on my kitchen countertop.I do wish it came in a dark brown color. It did not, so I chose black.

Slimy underneath and hard to clean
Update on 8/25/16I gave this product an extra star because of the excellent customer service. I believe the problem may just be with the mat I received. Doesn't seem that others have the water problem underneath so there may be a defect with the one I got. However, based on the excellent customer service, I would not hesitate buying other products from them.Very disappointed. Love the idea, but there are two big problems:1. Gets wet and slimy underneath it. My husband pointed this out. We clean it off and let it dry and it gets wet and slimy underneath it again. There are no puddles forming so we can't figure this out.2. Can't really clean it. I thought it would be easy to clean as there are large gaps, but there is a white buildup that I cannot clean.I thought it was really perfect at first, but it's just not working as hoped.

Love it.
I live alone now. My wife is gone, my children are grown and moved away. This satisfies my needs and keeps my counter top neat. When not in use I can roll it up and put it in the cabinet. It is large enough to accommodate my 20 quart stock pot. Works much better than cloth mats that are inconvenient and take forever to dry out.The bonus scrubber is great. I first tried it out for normal washing and thought it a total waste and was prepared to throw it away. I however tried it for recessed areas in plastic bowls or around handle rivets on non-stick skillets and it worked exceptionally.

PERFECT for a small kitchen with no counter space for real dish rack
I bought this alongside a sink dish rack that has legs to elevate it up in and out of the sink (so the dishes don't touch beneath the rack itself). This dish drying and counter protector is the best investment I have ever made. I bought this a year ago, and in its' current state, it is just as good as when I bought it last year! Best part is the scrub brush - absolutely PERFECT. 10/10 this is coming with me anywhere I move, because I know it will be with me for a LONG time!
